- M42 + lightweight flywheel -

hello,
my M42 motor had 200k km (about 125k miles!)
now it's time to change the original cluch,
because in fast start slip a lot...

but also my flywheel is exsaust...
my motor mount the dual-mass flywheel,
the new part, in bmw, cost over 600$
and his weight is: 12.250 kg (about 26.95 lb)

in germany i have find, in ebay,
this lightweight mono-mass flywheel:

but the weight of this part, is only 6.9 kg (about 15.1 lb)...

the minimum range (950 rpm)
it will have any problems?

That should work fine. I think I have the same flywheel (if that's an actual BMW part). You might have some flywheel chatter at idle, but that happens with all but the really expensive flywheel/clutch combinations.

For reference, anything that works on an m42 (e30 or e36) will fit on an m44.

I have a flywheel from a e30 318 with an m42 engine. It's a euro-only part, off of the 318s without air conditioning. RPM's don't fluctuation at all, even with AC on.

It's an m42 flywheel, and the weight (20.6lbs) sounds right. That's 7-8 lbs lighter than the stock dual-mass flywheel.

Supercharged cars can actually see less performance from a lightweight flywheel, that's why I'm running the 20lb flywheel isn't of a 12 lb, or whatever.

I found an e36M3 light flywheel (11lbs) on sale much cheaper than an aftermarket 318 flywheel. Along with an M3 clutch kit, it worked great, AC was fine as well. And after taking it off 30K miles later, the clutch was still in perfect condition.

It was at that time - as long as you get the appropriate clutch kit, a flywheel from an e36M3 will fit. I think I paid around $400 for the flywheel on sale.

Only difference is that UUC is making their own flywheel now, and they used to sell a remarketed Fidanza flywheel that's a little heavier.

Yes, the little M42 doesn't need any extra weight holding it back. :)
