The Clarion unit that came with my car (model BD216) keeps skipping and such with even a light touch of the upseek button, so I want to get a new CD/MP3 player. I wouldn't buy one if this worked properly!
I've been looking around in the 'States and found a Pioneer DEHP-5800MP with an OEL display:
http://buyeretail.com/product.asp?file=NexTag&i=PIODEHP5800&sku=DEHP5800MP
...and for only $138.50 + shipping seems like a VERY reasonable price. If you want something with OEL here in Canada you'd better be prepared to pay at the _least_ $230 or more.
I can find a nice Metrik player (model MCD-795) for $89.99; Blaupunkt Bahamas $148, Monte Carlo $138, and Venice Beach $118; and others for cheap but want to get a good player.

Guess I wasn't clear, my fault!
What I want is a player with an aux-in port on the front so that my friends can hook up their CD or MP3 players.
Also, the sound quality is very important, but I'm not looking to amp it since I'll stick to the stock speakers.
Any opinions on what I should look for?

My broyher owns a 1994 325i BMW and he currently has installed a JVC cd/MP3 player that also has that AUX port in the front so you can have other people plug thier players into your cd player. i am not to sure of the cost but i think it might be around 200. if u lived near me i could hook you up with some "HOT" MP3/CD players for 100 or less but thats only cus i know this guy. its not what you know but who you know
I am opening up this topic, I too want a new Player, I am looking at the following
Brands, Sony, Alpine, JVC, Kenwood; What should i get, and what model should i get. Links and images are a must.

I got a Clarion DXZ745MP as a demo unit on sale for $ 200 ($ 80 install) and it sounds way better than the stock cassette - black face with red readout sort of matches the rest of the dash - it will read mp3 and take other inputs
I also upgrades with new Clarion mid line speaker system
first choice was Nakamiki but too much $$$
I know the guy I got this one from has another demo for sale, but next model up, for about the same price ($ 200) - I thought the controls were too complicated so did not go for it (silver face, not black)
if your interested I can give you more info
