View Full Version : How loud is your exhaust?

I had said before that my exhaust is a lil too high pitched for me. But always being the driver I hadn't heard it correctly. My exhaust is damn near silent. I have this quite large muffler. So yeah this poll is just to see who has what kind of exhaust.

I would consider my exhaust louad and deep. I was running the car without a muffler for about a week and that was incredible loud and annoying. Once i got my Brullen i noticed no change in sound but after i broke the exhaust in the sound was amazing. Its still pretty loud but also deep. Nothing like the ricer exhuasts u see on civics.

loud and high just screams ricer to me. i'll take loud and deep any day. now add in a quality air box and i'm in heaven.

my exhaust is 2.5in all the way back to a fart can with no cats. it sounds really throaty and I love it but will probably have to put a resonator in since I cant afford anymore tickets:mad: it sounds like a big truck with the turbo:biggrin:

I have a supersprint catback exhaust system, pretty quiet, nice sound when you jump on it.

I think that my exhaust is stock, and it is quiet. Question, the tail pipe is flattened on the side where it goes under the back axle (gives clearance). This would appear to be a major restriction. Is this normal for stock exhaust, or might I have a restrictive replacement?

i dont know for sure, but if i remember right, it is supposed to be there....

PT...you going to the next THSCC auto cross...july 23 i think?

Rob, I plan to run the next THSCC autocross. Do you know anyone around here (Raleigh NC) with an aftermarket exhaust? I want to hear Stromung, Supersprint, and Remus.

can't help you on the exhaust search as i dont even know too many people with BMWs that are actually interested in mods/upgrades

perhaps there will be some guys at the autocross that have some exhausts

I have 2.5 in piping from the cat-back, with a Y pipe into
a dual exhaust with Hotchkins Performance mufflers, and
my car is freaking LOUD.
I kinda want it quieter, like REDIS, im sick of getting tickets
for it.

We seem to have two extremes here: custom and loud, stock and quiet. Doesn't anyone with Stromung, Supersprint, Remus, or other aftermarket exhaust want to help us out here? Thanks to the one Supersprint reply!

I already have a beautiful stainless exhaust on my other car. Nice deep sound. Looks great. Acceptably loud when accelerating. But the drone from 3k to 3.5k will drive you out of the car on a trip! I do not need another mistake like that! HELP!

There are video clips of a ti with a Stromung on www.understeer.com. It sounds very nice. I have the Supersprint and it is also very tasty sounding. It's fairly quiet, but it has a nice rumble to it at idle and it sounds really nice when you get on it. There is a bit of a drone at highway speeds, especially if you have the seats down, but it's not really annoying or anything. The only real downside is the cost, but the Stromung isn't much less. I don't have really have the equipment to make a recording, but I may give it a try later today.

I have just installed stromung and I love it. Not too loud but quality growl. It weighs no more than 1/2 the stock exhaust and yes the stock does have all the flattened and restrictive sections. Looks good to boot!!

AlaskaBlue has the flowmaster 40 series and the resonator(unless he had it chopped off...) His is deep and throaty for prolly the first 3k rpms...then it just sounds like a rice burner on steroids.

I have a $34 can that sounds pretty good. A little louder on the low end, but not nearly as raspy as the stocker.

I've got the supersprint exhaust with a cat delete, and it sounds very good from inside. Outside it sounds a little loud, but not too obnoxious.

Thanks for the responses! Stromung and Supersprint are now at the top of my list. I'm going to try to hear them in person, but that may not work out. Its a long shot, but is anyone going to be at the NOPI Nationals Sept 16-17 in Atlanta? Usually not many TIs there (1 last year, an easy big trophy!). My TI is not up to showing yet (next year), but I will be there with my other car, so if anyone comes, I will check out your exhaust!

L&D, Eisenmann race for an S50 with cams/AA headers. Decent under part throttle, gets them out of the way on WOT. Doesn't have that gurgly E36 M3 sound though, just a great big sweet roar. No louder than a Mustang.

I have an ANSA Sport exhaust, it's not exactly loud inside the car, but outside it has a very nice purr... it's not roaring, but a respectable tone. I'll take a video or sound clip of it.

Mine is quiet until you step on the gas, then it gets a little throaty. I'm runnin an Ansa, and am enjoying it so far.

no muffler. Not too loud but very throaty! I'm learning to weld at the moment and will not attempt the exhaust fix until I've got my glasses or contacts (hopefully I'd have one or more of these by the end of the afternoon)!

I like the sound it makes revving up to 5000 rpms. It definitely feels like I've got extra power. I think I might leave the exhaust off until I move someplace with emissions testing. Its louder, but there are plenty of other cars that are still louder than mine down here.
