ok well there is this 1996 318ti for sale in my area for 6000 with 101,000miles. my dad just talked to a guy at his work that is selling an 86 3 series convertable. i really want the 96 but my dad was going to suprise me with the 86. my mom asked me what i thought of the 86 and i said it was okay but i would prefer the newer car. the guy wants 3500 for the 86. so somehow i need to run it across my dad that i dont want the 86 and that i would rather have have the 96. how do i do this? and i think 6000 is too much for this car. i should be able to get him down some and its not even in great condition. the leather on the drivers seat is worn and the shift book is messed up. one of the rims are bent and it has some dents and scratches on it. what should i offer him? and how do i tell my dad i dont really want the 86 because its too old and im just not into it. i appreciate them buying me this car but why waste the money on a car that i dont like much when i can put it towards a car that i really like. somebody help me. thanks

ya 4500< the gut who was selling my Ti had it up for 6500 then a few months later droped it to 5G, I tried 4500 but he wouldent have it. My interior is mint, exterior is normal for a 11 year old car. try 4500 and work your way up with him...take coltrol...he wants it gone.

BTW show me a pic of this 86...I want to see.

I have a 91 convertible and I can honestly say the handling sucks compared to my ti. The ti is so much more practical. I love the convertible, but I see myself selling it when I buy something new. I don't see myself selling the ti unless I am forced to.

Man... I've really been wanting an E30 vert for a while now.. I'd never trade my Ti for one though, for a multitude of reasons.

Are you located in an area where winter isn't a concern?

winters here can get pretty bad. if its bad enough i can just use my dads truck. its not really a big concern but i really want something newer. im going to talk to my mom about the 96. i th8ink the reason my dad wants to get the 86 is because he knows there is nothing wrong with it and the guy he works with wouldnt lie to him. but even if something is wrong with the 96, i work at BMW. its not too much of a concern for me. the 96 has been sitting there for quite a while. im sure he will take 4250- to maybe a little more. if not i can find another one. an di dont have pictures of the white 86. sorry.

I have been driving my 91 325iC for 2 weeks now.
Finally had time to swap put my track pads on the ti.
Took it for a little ride to shake some of the rust off the rotors.
You just don't know what you have until it's gone.
The ti handles so well. Of course it has a 2.8, UUC short shift and pretty solid bushings. It is just so much fun to drive. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. :)
The convertible, it's fun with the top down but that's where the fun ends. It just does not handle as well.
