I have four so far. 1 HPI RS4 nitro road car, 2 traxxas trucks (uknown models), 1 HPI RS4 Micro Electric car. I couldnt find any TI bodies for my car but did find an ///M3 that i want to buy and paint. You can check them out in my gallery.

I've got a Nitro RS4 Evo. Currently running the stock E46 M3 body, but I managed to score a rare E36 M3 body on eBay. I've been researching to see if it's possible to make a mold and copy it a few times; don't want to wreck a body I'll probably never see again.

No pics of the car, but the beat-to-hell E46 body is silver. I tried taking pics of the E36 body at one time, but since it's still clear, you can't really tell anything from them.

My next r/c project is to take a 1/8 roadcar chassis, strap an airplane motor to it, supercharge, 3-speed tranny, lsd, m3 body. Ill probably do a roll cage too for protection.

im expecting about 110+mph...around $100-200 if that. I already have the chassis, all i need is the tranny, motor, and re-enforement pieces.

Isnt that like a 1/10 scale truck with like 2.1 hp with a 3-speed tranny? Is lsd optional, or is it standard? Any ideas on which motor to get for my project? An airplane or boat motor would put out more hp/torque than a lot of the truck/car motors right?

I have a HPI savage, unfortunatley right now it wont change from first to second gear. Anyone on here have knowledge of theses trannies?
Bluebimma
07-25-2006, 07:39 PM
Have you checked the gears for damage? Also, i havent ran my 2-speed in a while, but do you have the one that actimatically clicks into the next gear at a certain speed?

I wish i did. Im helping a buddy of my build one from scratch though....most of the parts are from ebay and are pretty cheap. He found a complete rolling chassis, no motor, for about $20. What car is the 3-speed for and what brand
Rhys H
07-26-2006, 03:35 AM
I have not checked the gears yet and yes I think that it does change into second at a set speed. It says in the manual that if the engine is not tuned properly it may not shift, but I have tried many times with the same result....not shifting. I will take apart the tranny and see whats up
Bluebimma
07-26-2006, 03:43 AM
Maybe somehow, your gears are misaligned???ill check my tranny and see if i can offer anymore advice.

Found this on hpiracing.com:
My 2 speed is not shifting!
Unless something is not adjusted properly or broken, the 2 speed should shift into second when the engine is sufficiently warmed up (usually a minute or two of starting the engine). If it does not shift, use a 2mm Allen wrench to adjust the shift point set screw counterclockwise. Turn the set screw 1/4 turn at a time and make a test run to see if the car shifts into second. If it does not, turn the set screw 1/4 turn more and try again. Make sure not to touch the center set screw! The center set screw holds the 2 speed in place on the gear shaft.

Their Faq. is pretty helpful.

My friend's 1/10 flips over if you go full throttle with his brushless system, and that's with the lowest power motor he has. With slicker tires, he could probably do burnouts all day long.
Bluebimma
07-27-2006, 01:45 AM
thats cool....i just find it amazing that you can take an r/c and get all four wheels to spin and burnout like that. I can drift mine, thats about it, no way in hell i could do a burnout.

I have a HPI mt4 offroad... It is an electric motor 4 wheel drive.. It hauls ass on the road though.. I always thought it was cool as hell how adjustable the HPI rc's are. On mine I can raise up the suspension for doing dirt course jumps, or drop it down for more street racing... Right now I need to pull out my speed controller and get a better one, along with getting the 3000Mah batteries for it.. When I first bought this thing those batteries and chargers were five times what they cost now...
With the 3000Mah batteries putting a really hopped up motor in it shouldn't cause the batteries to die so quickly... If I didn't have a real project car under way messing with the RC would be a bigger priority... Even for five years old it will still haul ass other than the batteries are shot and die pretty quickly.

The Evo is a TC3 with a rally conversion kit (makes the car 200mm wide & gives more ground clearance).
The bodyshell is a HPI 200mm evo rally that I painted & stickered up.

I can't imaging spending the amount of money
RC's cost when it could be buying me more track time :icon_poke
Or bigger brakes,
Or a DASC,
Or a M3 engine,
Or Tires....
Funny story, a buddy of mines dad bought him a 10,000
dollar shotgun and paid his way to the Olympic trials if
he promised to give up the rc cars. He was Nationally
competitive but the operating costs were insane,
travel car parts etc. They were dropping about 3 grand a week.
Heck his tires cost more than my real car race tires...

I spent all afternoon friday tearing apart my savage and trying to find out why it wont start. It is getting fuel and air so I was thinking that maybe the glow plug itself is weak. I took a brand new glow plug ,put it in the igniter and compared it to the old one and altough the new was a bit brighter I think I may have a problem with the glow plug igniter itself. To answer the question no I did not get to run my rc this weekend, but I did try!

If the body is a clear polycarbonate (lexan) body they are fairly easy to paint as they are painted from the inside.
The key part to painting polycarbonate bodyshell's is good masking and taking plenty of time spraying thin coats of paint & putting a couple of coats of paint on.

Man, that sucks, hope you can get it runnin. Did you flood it at all when trying to start it? What was the temp like outside when you tried to start it? I usually use a hairdryer to heat up the engine before trying to start it, and then go from there.

Hey.....I have a HPI Nitro RS4 with a Dodge Viper Body if anyone is interested. I'll have to take a look to see what I all have a get a price, and I'll try to get some pictures. I've only drove it a few times and just lost interest in it and working 3 jobs doesn't help.
