Ok guys, I'm having a bad day. I finally moved my girlfriend, although I was almost killed a few times by out of state drivers that dont' know how to use sideview mirrors when they pack their SUV full of **** for their college daughter and can't see out the rear window. Then I get home and my brother trashed the house, and I end up cleaning it up. I thought the day was going better when I saw a msg from StealthBimmer in my inbox, telling me about a local 318ti in quincy MA listed on CL. I called the girl who said someone was coming to look at it and she'd call if he didn't take it, but she was positive he would (so she promptly hung up while I was still talking to her, without asking my name or phone #). Bitch, I'm sorry if anyone here knows her, but friendliness is still a quaility I cherish. So I do an autotrader and cars.com search for a ti, and almost nothing worth persuing comes up. The only one is this, and 10k is way too much for this car:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=206568150&dealer_id=554376&car_year=1996&mod_bookmark_id=null&search_type=both&num_records=25&make=BMW&transmission=Manual&distance=300&model=318TI&address=02184&make2=&certified=&advanced=y&max_mileage=100000&max_price=&bkms=1157223507199&min_price=&end_year=2007&color=&start_year=1981&drive=&engine=&doors=&fuel=&lang=en&cardist=151

So at this point...what do I do? My VW is falling apart, and I'm not making the slightest effort to maintain it. Should I start looking at other BMW's? 323's and 328's? What other models would you guys suggest?

I would really miss the hatch, since I can carry so much more in it with the seats folded down. Should I hold out and hope a 318ti becomes availible? (which might make me the happiest in the long run, but what I want may never come along)

How far are you willing to drive for a TI? I know of a couple here, around ohio, for under 10k.

I don't know how far I'm willing to drive. I don't have enough money to fly around the country to find a car. If there was a car that I was confident about, I would definately go purchase it far away. Although to tell you the truth, this will be my second car, and I really have not purchased a car from that distance. If you have advice let me know.

If you're still interested in cars in NJ, check out www.nj.com and go to classifieds. They have a few TI's available. My second recommendation would be a 3xxiS cause they're also fun to drive, or maybe a Z3 with the 1.9l.

Sorry to hear about that girl who is selling the ti locally. I just saw the posting on CL and it sounded pretty good. Well call her back again and see if she is for real selling the ti. I don't know her at all. :(

Ok so there was a ti put up on autotrader on friday. I kept calling the dealer to figure out the most basic things, color, tranny etc. but after six or so calls no one picked up. So I just dicided to **** it, and drove to the north shore to see it. Of course, it was sold. My luck sucks.

Can't believe how fast a ti will get snabbed by buyers. Nowadays more people are looking into 4-cylinder small cars under $10K.

Thanks guys for sending suggestions and posting ti's for sale. To be honest, I'm looking for something very specific, as this will not only be my project but my daily driver, and will need to last be awhile as I am hoping to enter a doctoral program in philosophy (which means no money). I'm looking for 97-99, about 90k or under milage, manual tranny, in red, silver or black, with grey or black leather interior (or black cloth). This is really hard to find, and I'm wondering if I should give up and get a e46 323i.

Yeah that ti you posted is too much money for a 96,even though it has sort of low miles for the year. That plastic/wood trim must've been the price hike on the car.lol

Car that was posted in Ohio on autotrader.com is sold. I do not believe there is a ti across the country that fits my criteria :(
