How do I know if I have an M42 or M44 engine. My car is a 1995, always thought it was an M42. Anyway to make sure (maybe a sticker somewhere)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

As far as I know, OBD I cars, 1995 and earlier, are M42s. All 1996's and on (OBD II) have M44 engines. The more stable torque curve of the M44 is because of the modification of engine size, 1.8L to 1.9L and OBD conversion.

The M42 has .1L smaller of a motor, therefore torque is lower.

Basically, I think if it's model year 1995, it's an M42, after that it's an M44.
