I've searched through the threads, but I can't seem to find a solid info on this. I want to perform both tranny and diff. liquid changes and need to know what to use. MTF or Dexron for tranny and I think 75W90 for diff.
Thanks.

for transmission dexron. its a pain in the a$s pumping it in since there is no dipstick so make sure you have a pump or some method of getting your fluid where it belongs.

Diff = Redline 75w90 for the limited slip
Trans = Redline MT90 w/ UUC Stage II fly..very very very little gear noise.
Brake = Ate Super Blue Racing

I thought Dexron is a fluid for an Automatic tranny. Which transmission type do you have?

getrag 220 5spd, I think I got the model number right.

Not that I know much about this, but I'm pretty sure that Dextron and Mercron are both automatic transmission fluids. Don't put those into your tranny.

The tranny calls for ATF. I use Redline D4 ATF. Some people use a thicker gear oil though.

ATF alone causes alot of noise with the UUC Stage II.

A mix of ATF/140NS is supposed to completely rid it.

I used MT90 cause Titanmotorsports was out of 140NS..so I compromised but it hasn't turned out to be a huge issue.

I just did my diff. fluid change. I just used Mobil1 75W90. The next time I will definitely try using Redline.
It was pretty easy, although I thought it takes more than 1 quart and a half, but as soon as it starts to overflow, I plugged it up.
I will want to do the brake fluid bleed/flush and the tranny next.
Next year: the ater pump, radiator and thremo.
Thanks a million, guys.

our waterpumps are only 58$ from PelicanParts for the Graf model, which has a metal impellor.

for the trans, buy a simple fluid pump since the fill is on the side and can be a PITA at times. I used a gravity feed with a used I.V. stand before I got my pump. the stand helped, but the pump made the job cake.

One thing. The Redline gear oil unless noted has additives for the limited slip in the diff. The Mobil1 doesn't IIRC, you have to add them yourself, not a huge issue..really not a issue, but def something to have the knowledge of.

Don't know.......I used Mobil1 75W90, cost 8.95/quart. Get Redline or Swepco.

I know this is an older thread, but same base questions as I reinstall my M44 motor and tranny.

I am planning to use Redline MTL for a tranny fluid change. Any recent experiences for feedback in this tranny. The sticker on the side of the Getrag indicates I should ATF in this maual tranny.

For the diff, I have typically use Redline as well, but oddly enough in my 318ic I used Royal Purple and found it was whinney. I ended up using BMW non-LSD and it was very quiet. I used Royal Purple as the store was out of Redline. Any recent feedback for Redline in the 318ti diff?

What are you all using for power steering fluid?

I use ATE blue in the brake/clutch hydraulic system.

Thanks!
