Knocking...i think?

Hey Guys. Ok so i've been trying to figure out what to do here. Fist off, the cel has not come on, but i checked the codes anyway and i did get a 1226, which is knock sensor 2. So just out of curiosity, i disconnected the battery and reset the comp. The code was cleared, and didn't come back after I went for a drive but the problem was still there. The problem is this, im hearing a knocking at idle, almost like rocks in a can, and my idle bounces around (between 500 and 900 rpm) and the car almost sounds like a diesel. It seems like its chugging at idle. I replaced the idle air control valve yesterday which didn't help. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Oh and i forgot to add. The knocking goes away when I engage the clutch, but the motor still sounds like its chugging.

Could it just be a knock or o2 sensor?

Use a wooden dowel as a stethoscope and touch it to the engine,
If its loud right at the Intake manifold on the head it could be a broken valve spring.
it could be a broken clutch spring, AC clutch, bad sparkplug, lots of things....

Where is the crankcase vent valve located? I couldn't find it listed anywhere in my haynes manual.

Its on the driver's side of the engine bay, towards the firewall. I have a couple of posts out there, one which I used to point it out. If use use the diagram below, its right underneath #8
