January Meet in the O.C.

SoCalTi's: Here is a suggestion for the Second Saturday in January. There is going to a BMW Themed gathering at the Spectrum in Irvine. This is better described below. If interested in making the a SoCalTi meet, and then a coast cruise, let the group know. I'll be there for sure. :tongue: :biggrin:

January 12, 2008 - 7:00 to 9:00 AM: Cars and Coffee at the Ford PAG Center in Irvine
BMW will be the featured marque. Any and all BMW's are wanted, but if you have a vintage BMW to display (Pre-1974 Coupes and 2002, 6ers and early M's) please contact Tom Rakestraw (rakearch@aol.com). Cars for the marque display must arrive by 6:45 AM, after that display parking is first-come, first-serve. There's lots of spectator parking available if you just want to look instead of display. A drive through Orange County will follow the show.

Cars and Coffee is the successor to the Crystal Cove Car Show. Hundreds of proud owners (almost all the cars are privately owned) bring their cars to this informal show every weekend. For a quick peek at the various cars you might see on any given Saturday, check out this photo album (http://www.frank4cars.fotki.com/c--c/). Here's a brief list of what you might have seen over the past year.

Here is more info on the Second Saturday event in January in Orange county (roughly at the El Toro "Y" where the I-5 and I-405 split). There is expected to be 120 BMW's there of all kinds and years. It would be fantastic that the Ti's be well represented at the show and a couple of drives are being planned for afterwards, perhaps over the Ortega Hwy and another along PCH. There is a couple of things being discussed for Lunch, one of them being the below mentioned BBQ at BMS in Santa Ana and another is lunch and tour at Crevier Classics, a warehouse of classic BMW's and others.

If it were to be raining, the event would be shifted to the following Saturday.

BMW DAY - Cars & Coffee Car Show Saturday January 12th 2008
On Saturday January 12th BMW will be the featured marquee at the
Weekly Cars & Coffee Gathering held at the Ford PAG Headquarters in
Irvine.

Special parking for vintage BMW's has been scheduled for the January
12th Cars and Coffee. The location is at the Ford Motor Company's PAG
center in Irvine Spectrum located at 7905 Gateway Blvd in Irvine.

Vintage BMW's
If you have a pre 1985 vintage BMW, Neue Klasse, Coupe, 2002, or 6er
car and would like to park in the vintage area please contact Tom
Rakestraw at (rakearch@aol.com). Plan on arriving by 6:30 a.m. . .
After 6:45 a.m . It is simply "first-come-first-parked" in the
vintage area. In November of 2006, we had 85 plus vintage cars on
display. We hope to have additional pre war and classic BMW's for
this gathering as well as current models.

Modern BMW's
If you have a post 1985 BMW, we will have additional parking directly
adjacent. We would like to group cars by model such as E21, E28, E30,
E36 .. and so on. I would like a model/club contact to reserve up to
a ten spots for each make. I know The E30 M3 guys are good for at
least that number.

Race BMW's
If you have a factory or privately modified BMW powered race car we
will have you park in the aisles within the Vintage & Modern parking
areas.

Cars and Coffee is an informal and commercial free gathering of car
enthusiasts. All types of sports, import, performance and classic
cars are on display. Please respect our hosts request and arrive and
depart in a quite manner as Irvine police are frequently in
attendance.

An informal drive through the foothills of Orange County will follow
the show. We will depart from the Ford PAG lot shortly after 9 a.m.
Details of the drive will be available on December 1st. Maps will be
provided. We will plan to stop for lunch afterwards.

There is a BBQ at BMS Tuners in Costa Mesa if you like. I have not
seen a map of the drive to this point either.

Hey Guys, I'm definitely going. I'm having problems with my browser. My computer's so old(windows 98) there's nothing available for it. I'll definitely be there but sadly without the Ti since I've been asked to bring the 02 Turbo but I am looking forward to a CA Ti meet in the future. Please stop by the white Turbo and say "hi".

BTW, although I'll apologize for this off topic but I must mention that my son drove the DASC Ti at the Central CA Chapter Buttonwillow HPDE last fall. As an engineering student, he understood the theory but he now knows what it physically feels like with forced induction. Although the original clutch was starting to slip, he was able to either keep up or pass many of the "6" hole cars on the front straight while he easily overtook most of his "D" beginning pack in the turns even with the tired stock suspension. The Ti is a marvelously designed, fantastic, all around car with or without FI. Thanks, -Eddy

Did anyone hear back to whether or not you guys can have the parking spots reserved?
I attended the last one, and a few other featured marques, and I remember hearing the spots were reserved for more rare cars. Plus, limited parking in the featured marque. Last time there wasn't one e36. Mostly e30 M3's, 2002's, Alpinas, 3.0 cs' and an M1 Procar. Plus around 110 pending reservations this time around. So just giving a heads up. Good luck.

The parking lot is of decent size. Not huge. The Featured section last year was sectioned off in the corner maybe 30 spots big. So I'm assuming it would be the same way this year, unless they use the whole lot.

Anyways, I would just try to get there somewhat early and park together in the lot.

I might be swapping the tranny into the clubsport this week in hopes of selling it soon, so I'm not sure which car I'll be driving to the meet, but it'll definitely be a black ti:biggrin:

Did you get some mirrors? Lol, I've never worked with seat heaters before so you're probably more knowledgeable than me when it comes to that. I'm probably going to be working on my car all week getting it ready for the meet. I want to do an alignment job on it, but I need to buy a special tool first. Still haven't decided if I'm going to swap the tranny into the clubsport or just take the '97 down to OC. Either way, both cars need some serious detailing.

I'm still in Monterey and was planning on driving down first thing tomorrow but my cars being weird and I have to take it to a mechanic first thing. The engine and exhaust sound really bad, the exhaust looks smoky and it's really underpowered. Could a busted sparkplug do that? I haven't changed them in a while.

Anyhow, I'd like to go, depending on the situation with my car. Also, I can't swing 5 am, so I might show up a little later. Can I get someone's cell number so I can call when I get there?

Hey Nick, Sorry to hear about your car. A spark plug could cause that, but I'd definitely check things out before you try to drive it home from Monterey. I hate to jinx you but lets keep our fingers crossed it's a spark plug and not a BHG or anything like that. I'll PM you a few #'s later so you could reach us when you get down to OC.

BTW Nick, that wine was KILLER! Maybe you could help me get rid of a few bottles of Sicilian grape juice that I have laying around:wink:
