referred to as "valve cover gasket" here in the states. cirrus22 (hope i spelled that right) has a very nice write up on replacing that in the knowledgebase.

*rocker cover gasket

proper term for the part...don't hear that often here in the US.
mallard is on the ball!

Note: i used this term at work today and the finance manager looked at me like i was drunk. the f***in' thing covers the rocker arms...not the valves!
good call mallard

Check the bolts that were holding the AC compressor in. When I took the AC compressor off my E30, it started leaking from the area where the compressor sat. Pull the bolts out one at a time, put some lock tite on them, and make sure they're torqued correctly. You may need to keep the bracket for the compressor on there as some of the bolts are too long to do their job without it.

My '97ti is leaking oil, after having the dealer replace the water pump and repairing the heater and VGC. They changed the oil, new wipers, wheel emblem covers...was supposed to get the car like new again ($1,000 later), but now I have this oil leak and is also leaking antifreeze. There is so much oil leaking it's all over the bottom of the car and the dealer says they cannot tell where it's leaking!!! Idiots!!! Any feedback???

I have a pretty bad oil leak. I'm not sure of where its coming from, but I think I have narrowed it down. I'm going to be replacing everything thing in this picture; #4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CG73&mospid=47506&btnr=11_1568&hg=11&fg=30
I'm doing this because it looks as if this is where all the oil leakage is. I can actually see a puddle of oil right below the oil filter housing, so I'm hoping this is where my leak is. Its worth checking out.

^ Certainly could be. I replaced gasket #6 and that seemed to take care of the problem. You have to dig into the engine a bit to reach it, but it's not too bad.
