We'll be replacing cabin filters and doing any other small things that people might want to do (eg: dave wants to replace his hatch struts).

We'll firm up the meeting time and place as the date gets closer. So far the proposed locations are Eric's house and Sean's shop. It may depend on weather, as my garage doesn't have much free space. I could likely get my buddy to move his car out and then we'd have room for two inside.

Ok eric i'll just go ahead and order the cabin filters then. Is there anything else we need to bring?

Ok eric i'll just go ahead and order the cabin filters then. Is there anything else we need to bring?

Bring a 7mm nut driver. It will be easier to use than a socket.

Locate an ACE hardware store nearby. I found the plastic screw clip holding the cabin air filter air collector was broken. These go into a hole in the body and the screw goes into them, kind of like a plastic nut. ACE hardware has them as license plate holders (very small versions of the big plastic nuts used on license plates)

Sorry, I'll be out of town until the end of the month.

Have fun.

I don't care much for beer, it makes me sick:frown: But i rather drink hard stuff now that doesn't make me sick. :drunk: But yea i guess someone wont have to be drunk or else we wouldn't get nothing done  Yea if it wasn't for the snow we would have done this sooner.

Yea i had always wanted a meet but i never saw many Ti's in denver. So i was like why bother, until one day i get this PM from sean asking if we have meets here in denver. From then everything started to come together. Yea i know we have had only 1 meet with all 5 of us but that was just the begining. 2008 has alot for MHTi. But i do give some credit to Hugo, even though he was hated by many he still got a meet together.

So beside some beverages, what else do we bring any kind of specific tool? Ey Sean you wanna see if we can figure out what's making our steering wheel squeak? Anyone have some special request of music, so i can get it on my ipod and just hook it up to my car and listen while we work?

cali-ti
01-07-2008, 05:44 AM
i guess i don't have much to chime in on, steven deleted most of them :)

i'll figure out what tools we need and post up, but it won't be tonight. i want to get my second winter rim wheel guarded so i can get it back on the car early tomorrow morning.

Great, here are a few on my list. Maybe we can get some to match up.
1. Remove door panel, fix the handle and put back with new clips.
2. Remove rear bumber and straighten
3. Straighten front grill sheet metal and replace grills.
4. Replace dash lights/bulbs; instruments, heater controls
Note: my instrument panel has the light/fog switch. It does not match much of the literature. I think I have to remove the steering wheel.

i need to take my door cards off too, to take a look at my window mechanisms. i've heard some "snaps and crackles" in there that are likely the signs of bad things happening.

is your fog "switch" the same as the headlight switch but on the opposite side of the instrument cluster?

i just replaced my bulb behind the heater controls and the bezel/surround for those as well. the bezel is a big pain in the a$$ to replace. hopefully you don't have to do that. you don't need to remove that to replace the bulb, just the radio. i have the "special tool" for removing the radio.

what behind the rear bumper needs to be straightened?

lol ... if you don't have central locking, it likely won't be there. you could certainly have a look-see under your console. if you want, i can take a pic of what the connector looks like. i want to get a pic of the phone connector (that's unused and hidden under the console) anyway so i might as well take one of the other connectors under there.

ok this may sound stupid, well it did to me. I'm looking at these rims, i ask him if they will fit the Ti with a lug pattern of 5x120. He says no becasue my car is a rear wheel drive and the rims he has are for a front wheeel drive? What's he talking about, is it the offset?

thesk8nmidget
01-10-2008, 06:50 AM
offset possibly but not like you couldnt switch them around unless the width and offset are both different.

teetime4one

they are still $24.00 each after shipping.
do yourself a favor....go to a BMW dealership and pick up what you need.

cali-ti
01-13-2008, 03:11 PM
they'd be $29 total for two (the auction indicates it's for two filters + $10 shipping), which is pretty good. without looking at the actual filter element, i couldn't tell you if they're the same or not. they really shouldn't cost that much! i can only imagine the profit margin on those damn things is like 1000%. i think it's worth trying the ones from ebay.

elchicano318ti
01-13-2008, 05:15 PM

Great, here are a few on my list. Maybe we can get some to match up.
1. Remove door panel, fix the handle and put back with new clips.
2. Remove rear bumber and straighten
3. Straighten front grill sheet metal and replace grills.
4. Replace dash lights/bulbs; instruments, heater controls
Note: my instrument panel has the light/fog switch. It does not match much of the literature. I think I have to remove the steering wheel.

One more for the list as of last night.:frown:
5. When opening the passenger window it gave a loud 'POP' and no longer closed. After pinching a friends finger and after some grunts we got the window closed and made it home in the cold without freezing. So, I have to open up the door panel on the other side as well. But it has to wait untill I get back.

jesus ... i just came back from the midworst where it was lows in the negatives and windchills in the -20 to -30 range (and they're now getting hammered with freezing rain/snow and cold again!) ... this is awesome! florida is too hot/humid for me, i hate humidity. it's all perspective. sean, you grew up in cali, so you're used to warmth. i grew up in the dump of the midwest ... cold, ****ty, nasty winters and hot, humid, crappy summers (but at least there were plenty of mosquitos!).

looking at the types of major catastrophes that can occur in different parts of the US, i'll happily take the rocky mountain area. no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no earthquakes (not that i know of anyway) ... depending on where you are, i guess there's possibility of flooding (luckily i'm off the flood plain) and of course some big snow storms. not a lot of bugs and other annoying critters (like mosquitoes, cockroaches, alligators, snakes). overall, i think it rates well :)

and josh, have fun there in houston in the summer when your nuts are on fire because it's so hot (from your pics though, you might like that!) lol

Geez, I have no idea at this point. I've been doing free-lance stagehand work for about 12 years, and did cartage for 5 years before that, so just about all of my recent experience is in the entertainment industry. So, I'd like to stay in show biz, but just not in the "blue collar" end of it. At this point, I'll consider just about any legit (and legal) offer, regardless of location or industry.

I just moved into a new apartment here a month ago, so I'm not too keen to move again so soon. But, if a door opens somewhere else, there's nothing keeping me here.

Hell, I'm tempted to marry this Hungarian girl I know, and move to Europe. LOL

Anyway... this is OT for this thread, so I'll shaddap now.

When opening the passenger window it gave a loud 'POP' and no longer closed. After pinching a friends finger and after some grunts we got the window closed and made it home in the cold without freezing. So, I have to open up the door panel on the other side as well. But it has to wait untill I get back.

that's happened to the best of us Werner.
get the old grease out of the tracks....apply some white lithium grease if you have it.
good luck!

Can you give me a little more detail. Are these the window tracks on the side or the one on the bottom? Since I'm going to open this up this week does anyone know of any parts that wear that I should replace, or other preventive maintanance?? I want it to be good for another 10 years.

teetime4one
02-10-2008, 01:45 PM
open the panel...
you'll see two separate tracks attached to the bottom of the window.
there are two nylon/plastic clips that'll be in them (shaped like an X with a circular hole in the middle).
the clips are probably broken...the hole in the middle should be round...not C shaped.
clean the old coagulated grease out of the tracks...get something like white lithium grease back in there...and install new clips.

now the bad part...
if your regulator(s) are bent they will have to be replaced to get another 10 years out of them...or you can bend them back into shape...and pray it holds up. some people have luck with re-bending them...i didn't.

make sure you get the window back on the tracks/guides in front and rear. the easiest way to do that is to take off the inner felt at the top of the door so you can see inside while guiding it in place...and put the front of the window in first...that's the easiest way i've found to do it.

Good Luck Werner!

I waited 'till it got a little warmer. Ok, yesterday I got it all working and back together. In my Haynes manual it says "If heigth adjustment is necessary, turn the height adjustment stop screw on the regulator"

Should I have that? If so where is it?
When I close the window it goes on its own (with no button pressed) until it hits the top and slightly bends/strains the regulator and then stops.

Is that how it should work?

Sean, Thanks for showing me your window.

The driver side on my ti needs a new door handle and I figured I better do the window tracks as well before that window goes pop. Unfortunately one of the 'snaps', that holds the door panel in place, is missing. #9 driver side.

Where is the best place to get these?

I just replaced my bulb behind the heater controls ... don't need to remove that to replace the bulb, just the radio. i have the "special tool" for removing the radio.

Ok, I got the radio out, unplugged the wires to the bulb assembly, but I can't get the bulb assembly out. It turns, but will not budge. How do I get the bulb out? I don't want to break anything. I assume it comes out behind the knobs toward the engine.

Yeah, my daughter was not impressed when trying to get heat in the dark. Just going down my list of things.

After going to that 'detailing' instructions, I added the leather seats to my list. I had someone look at my leather/cloth seats. The color is gone on one side and it is near cracking on some spots. It is not as soft as it should be. She said she can restore the color, "sand" off some of the rough spots in the leather, and restore the leather. Front/rear/steering wheel, and shift boot. ~$115 The leather products at the detailing place were over $50 so I'm going to have her do the leather as soon as it warns up.
