umm. . by all seems to work fine, does that mean you've gone out on a open road, taken the car up to about 30mph, slammed on the breaks and felt the ABS/ASC activate?

Is the throttle cable properly installed?
I've seen them pop off.

You may need to have the code scanned.

the lights wont go out on my dash
Could you please clarify exactly which light(s) are on? The CEL light is separate from the ASC+T light. Check your owners manual for details. Good luck!

You don't say what model car / engine you have but I have a 1.9 M43 engine. I had the same problem when I was cleaning out the idle control valve (I think that is what it's called). There was a cable connecting to the small unit which was located in front of the throttle body and I accidentally forgot to re-connect it and suddenly the light was on. I immediately thought I had broken something when cleaning out the unit but then discovered that I had failed to re-connect it.

Once re-connected, the light went off

I have a 1.9 M43 engine.

I think the M43 is a 1.6, the M44 is a 1.9

Why "think" when you can "know"??? Wikipedia is your friend. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M43)

In Europe, we have 1.9 M43's

Now back to the topic in hand - billytiger was this any use to you ?

Here is a pic I found on the net - http://users.belgacom.net/ddddv/engines/1800_gr.jpg
The idle valve is on this side on the inlet manifold right in the centre of the photo. I think the cable is the only electrical connection on it.

Anyway, no matter what engine you have, hopefully someone else will be able to confirm that there is an electrical connection onto all Idle Control Valves which affect the ASC light - anyone ?????
