So I was checking my oil 'n stuff and looking at my (stock) intake and was curious as to this other hose coming off of the air box. First off I wondered what the circular thing it goes to was, and then i wondered what people with cold air intakes did to accommodate this hose.

Here is a picture. The hose in question is the smaller one below the main intake.

do you have a M44? cuz i have the same thing. i dont know exactly what it does, but it does suck in air at times. think it has to do something with the exhaust?? i dunno. but what i did when i put on a cold air intake is that i put a lil K&N filter that fitted perfectly for it. ill take a picture of it maybe tomorrow or sunday.

Yeah I'm M44 too. My initial thought was a vacuum pump of some sort.. but i dont know why there would be a vacuum pump on a car. It's the pilot in me talking . Pictures would be rad, i was thinking about doing that exact thing, sticking a little filter on it. Anyone else chime in if you know what this is please!

Does Marv17 stand for Marvin? Cause thats my middle name.

secondary air pump (vacum control - emsissions) - it runs for about a minute after you start the car (only when your eninge is cold)... dont mess with it as if it fails 1) it'll throw a CEL & you wont pass inspection 2) it costs $400 to replace.

P.s. - you dont need to stick a filter on it unless you are eliminating the air box - but if you do eliminate the airbox the filter will work fine.

laslty, (IMO) 'cold air intakes are BS & they do not work as they suck in the hot air from the engine compartment (or if they go all the way down they may get wet when it rains - hydrolock - and then you are screwed). if you want some more airflow - FOGG the air box (search threads inder 'fogging the airbox').
good luck...

when you add an intake, there is a breather to attach to it... basically a small filter.

I've always wondered what those little filters were for
