I'd like to put "better" brakes on my 96 ti.
I really don't know much about this subject, but I've 82,000 on the car, and am beginning some overhaul work.
Any advice?

Why do you want better brakes?
Do you track or autocross the car?
Is it just for looks?
If you answered no to both questions, save your money.

But options start with 325/328 calipers and front vented rotors. That is my choice.

Some go with drilled, slotted or both.
I'm not a believer in either.

Thanks for the advice!
I have another question. What is the rundown on the designatory nomenclatures such as: E36, E30, etc.
What is the designation for the 96 318ti?
Also, I have a 99 M Roadster. What would the designator for it be?

Both your '96 ti and your '99 M Roadster are E36. The ti's technical designation is E36/5. I believe the roadster is E36/7, since that's the Z3 designation.

E30 is the designation for the 3-series cars that preceded the E36.

You can read a basic explanation of the nomenclature here: http://www.bmwccbc.org/misc/models.html
