I have been thinking about which direction I want to go with the new ti...

Does anyone here have a swapped ti as a dedicated race car? If so what class does it run in and is it competitive?

For NASA and SCCA I think most of the ratings come down to weight and horsepower... In BMWCCA a swapped Ti would end up in either modified or prepared class, really depends on the level of suspension prep, and how much work has been done to the engine...

In prepared class BMW-CR I think you would be competing with M3s that have comparable motors. You race at the donor cars prep weight, or the 318ti stock weight... Prepared only allows for minimal engine upgrades, cams, intake, tuning of stock DME, injectors...

The suspension can definitely be fine tuned enough to be competitive, there are certainly competitive E30's with S52 swaps out there being raced. Really comes down to how much you want to spend on prepping the car, and tuning the suspensions as to whether you will be mid back or front of the pack...

Check with massivelee as he had pictures of a BMW-CR C-mod Ti.

There are very few local BMW-CR races, winterfest at Sebring is about it. Would have to travel to Roebling or Road Atlanta for other close races. SCCA and NASA have more local races.

A local shop built a 318Ti with M52 motor. And it runs great brakes

I have a 3.0l swap with all the normal goodies...I run in SM in local autocross and usually do really well. I do track days in it too, but nothing competitive. It's quite the track-day sleeper; E46 M3 drivers don't expect to be passed by a ti!

I have also taken my 330ti to the track a few times last year. You would be surprised how fast these cars can be!

there's a 332ti featured in this months roundell from one of the races. I just glanced at the article. it's towards the back. I guess he dropped out due to problems.
