You want to know about us. I am a 17 year old male, who bought his 95' 318ti in December of 1999. I have added a Remus exhaust after a read-end accident. 17inch Mili Miglia wheels, with Yoko Paradas and Eibach lowering springs. I hope to chip it and maybe add a few more cool lil things.

Just go and make it someone else's problem.

I bought my 96 ti (65k miles) a couple years ago. I'd love to hook it up, but I can barely afford to keep the thing running well - wish i was a gear-head, the dealer is killing me!

Dan Burger

The dealer doesn't have to kill you...
you can buy a fault code reader and resetter (about $175) and do your own tune ups and save on the ridiculous costs of BMW labor.
I'd get a Bentley Manual, too.
Check out www.turnermotorsport.com (http://www.turnermotorsport.com) - they have some of the best prices for the tool.

I'm 24 from Uk and I've just bought my moms 94 ti. I've been driving it weekends for a couple of years and now its mine! I love the car and I have plans for it.
I'm getting clear turn signals this weekend, and I want some wheels soon too. Does anyone have any advice on what size wheels/tyres perform best on the ti?

Hi all. I purchased my 98 318ti Active just under a year ago, and itís a blast. I find myself driving around the beach for no apparent reason other then to be in the car. Sure itís not the fastest ride on the block, but it handles great and still averages 30mpg around town.

The car is stock to the core, but Iím planning on upgrading the suspension as soon as I decide on a shocks/spring package, and figure what size of tires to put on. Perhaps a front brace, x-brace, and sway bars soon after.

BTW: Great ti enthusiast site!

Hello! I am happy to find this board also. These ti's are great cars that seem to have the cult following BMW used to have as a brand years ago, before the luxury models started arriving. I still find that ti drivers flash their lights to others, whereas I don't see that even with other E36 drivers.

I bought my 96 Artiksilber Active ti brand spanking new and have been driving it year-round here in MN, swapping Michelins for Blizzaks round about December. I've had an 84 Rabbit GTI, Saab 900T, Volvo, Audi... But there's nothing like a nimble rear wheel drive hatchback.

Hello to Everyone!

I am in Kingston, Jamaica. I am a first time BMW Driver.

I like Fred.Larsen find myself driving around for no apparent reason other than to be in the car. I find myself volunteering to take one of my girlfriends home from work often, she lives in the Mountains, I love how the car whips right around the corners, its almost like its not even trying. You turn the Wheel and the whole car is around the corner in what seems like a millisecond without a roll or slip, amazing!

My 2002 316Ti has a 1.8 Liter 16v In-Line 4, Double-VANOS, Valvetronic, with ASC/T (Active Stability and Traction Control), Steptronic 5-Speed Auto, Anti-lock Brakes, Four Spoke Leather Multifunction Steering Wheel, Cruise Control

BMW Business with Cassette and Speed Sensitive Volume for the Radio, 6 CD Changer in the Rear, Rear Battery, Sport Seats w/ Fabric and Leather with Thigh Support, Alarm with Interior Motion Sensor,

Adaptive Transmission Management (Normal, Winter, or Hill Climb/Start-off), Shiftlock and Interlock, Sports Suspension with Central Arm Rear Axle with Anti Squat and Anti Dive, Single Joint Spring Strut Front Axle with Anti Dive, Anti-roll Bar Front and Rear,

Headlight Angle Control, Automatic Air Conditioning with Solar Sensor and Automatic Air Recirculation with Micro and Charcoal Filters, Light Alloy Wheels,

Car Key Memory, Rechargeable Key Remote through Ignition, Cargo Nets Back of Front Seats, Fog Lamps, Front+Side+Head(A-Pillar) Airbags, Central Locking with Electronic Immobiliser, and Crash Sensor. . I think that should be the majority.

I think My next Upgrade will be to get some larger Mags, maybe 17's w/ 225 55 Tires.

Anybody know of any Chip Upgrades for the Engine?

Hey all:
I'm a 36 year old auto and motorcycle nut. I own a 2001 BMW R1200c Phoenix motorcycle. ( a cruiser) And am in the process of buying ( hopefully) a 1996 Ti with 54k on it. When it comes to this car and the different models, I'm lost. The car I'm looking at has the upgraded stereo, ten speakers I think, is this a characteristic of any special model? What sucks big time is there is no owners manual with the car, is there a way to find out the model thru the vin number? And what about the manual, can I get one for a 1996 model? Thanks for the help.

My name is Bryan. I live in AZ. I just bought my first BMW yesterday, 2/28/02, and a ti at that. I bought a 95' ti sport, jet black, with all the trimings. Akimoto intake, headers, and exhaust, Dinan chip, M-package (front spoiler, side skirts, mirrors, and rear bumper). I absolutly love it. This is my first German car. I have driven American and Japanese cars before, but this German made car is a REAL car. I just had a new stero installed so it is starting to have personal touches.

Hello all.

I have posted a couple of calls for help and questions. Always been a big fan of BMW, Did any one see the flying Williams in F1?

I just bought a 95 TI club sport, I wasn't even looking to buy a car just burn a couple of hours test driving stuff. Completly stock for the time being, only stuff I plan to do would be to give it a little more pep.

I'm 32 years old, live in Rochester, NY. And have slowly but surely found longer and twistier ways home! My drove my Ti, went aout a couple weeks later and traded in her Acura 3.2TL on a 200 328i. I guess the fever is contagious. Rock on and go find the twisties!

My name's Amy, I just bought a 1996 automatic Cinnibar Red 318ti with the California rag top and sport package. It's a beauty. I live in the suburbs of Detroit and would love to get in touch with other 318ti owners in the area.

I just got the windows tinted, 5% in the back and %15 in the front, and I'm thinking about changing the sound system, but I really don't know a lot about what kinds of speakers I can change, whether to get an amp or subwoofer, etc ... I'm not really into the house shaking bass, just want a nice crisp sound ... lemme know if you have any suggestions ...

OK maybe some information??

Sorry about that.

I'm 32 and live in northern CT, but work on long island, NY (Lots of driving each weekend!!)

I am in the middle of planning/purchacing for my M3tii project. I should have the motor by the end of the month (1998 M3 3.2l w/5000 original miles)I'm still finalising the deal.

Current modifications are:
X-brace
1995 M3 LTW strut-tower bar (custom offset adapters to clear the intake manifold)
2000 M-Coupe` rear sway bar (to be installed this weekend..can't wait!!)
I also have rotors and pads from a 2000 M roadster, but I need other parts (obviously) to install them.

The strut bar adapters will be available soon, if someone wants to install this (proper) strut tower bar on their 4-cylinder ti. If you go with a D/A supercharger, you don't need these adapters. E-mail me if you want (rough) plans or to purchase the adapters themselves soon. (These look like factory parts.)

Future mods (aside from the MONSTER motor):
Full M3 front suspention
M3 rocker covers
M3 mirrors
M3 LTW front splitter
Factory ti or modified M3 LTW rear spoiler
M-Roadster / M Coupe` rear LSD
M-Contour or Forged M-double spoke? wheels (not sure on the name of them)
M-coupe` rear brakes

That should do it! http://www.happytogether.com/318ti/forum/smile.gif

//M3 front air dam w/ fog lights
Clear turn indicators (front, side, and rear)
//M5 17" rims w/ 225/45 tires

I love the car, but I feel the need for more power. I am currently looking into either a Mosselman kit or a Downing Atlanta kit, and I would appreciate any info on either of these systems from people who currently have it installed. An engine swap would be nice but I don't know if I have the funds for something that extensive. Let me know if you all have any comments / ideas. Later.

Hi everyone!
I just got my very first BMW 318 Ti about 2 weeks ago! I actually stumbled upon this car on accident. I was really looking for a 2001 Rav 4 or a Ford Escape. But who cares! I'm so happy with this car and sometimes I really wish I could just sleep in it and never leave "my baby"! HaHa... Anyhow here's a little info on the car: It's a 1997, black, with the sport package and all that good stuff, it has the M3 body kit and ///M mouldings on the door, 16in. sport rims, all four windows tinted to give it that sleek look... only one problem.... no CD player =( I'm only 19, so this is a must in a car for me!! Hopefully I'll get one soon, I'm dying over here without one! Anyways, I can't wait to talk car stuff with you all... since nobody I know likes talking to me about anything that has to do with BMW's or my car. (They think I'm bragging, which I'm not! I just tend to get excited and can't stop talking!)
But anyhow, Bye for now! =)

Hello fellow ti owners!

My name is Ian and I live in Panama (the country, not a beach in Florida). I have a '96 ti (M42) manual in Hellrot red that was purchased new. As for modifications, so far I just have an interesting cone filter with the stock airbox used as a heatshield. I'll be replacing that soon with a real heatshield. I also have a restriction-free exhaust. I cut out the catalytic converter and the resonator (It's legal here 8-) ) and put a Dyno-max Super-Turbo muffler. I also plan on replacing this system soon, as I don't like the sound and the look. Soon I'll be putting in a lightweight flywheel, better clutch, coil overs and some other stuff (who isn't, really). As for fashion I don't have much of it, just some white bulbs and some E46 Style 45 rims .

Here in Panama there are only about 15-20 compacts, 5-6 of which are 318ti's. I know three other ti owners and I'm sorry to report I'm the only one here that can be considered an "active" driver of the car. I regularly race my car on the street (professional racing here is very.. um.. crude) and the little 1.8L M42 has put quite an amount of cars to shame. I've considered putting my ti in circuit racing, but as I said earlier the professional racing scene here is crude; marred by bad organization and a HORRIBLE racetrack. The track itself is the only reason I don't race. It's basically an airfield converted to racetrack with only three turns, lots of holes, way too many rocks and no safety precautions. Someday :)

It's great that we have a community for ti's to share information. I thank all of you that have or will help me and I hope to someday be able to share information with the rest of you.

:D Here's an update on my car: "a work in progress" (but nearly done)

it started life as a humble 1998 'sport' ti with sun-roof delete, bright red with the 'red' interior... 8-)

Maybe some people don't get it, (and that's OK) but I'm using all factory parts. BMW has a great Motorsport program, and a lot of the M3 'race' parts work with a Compact6. This is my car...

Latest and greatest:

*1999 M Roadster 3.2l engine W/DINAN stage I chip
*Lightweight flywheel
*M3 clutch and slave cylinder
*M3 X-brace
*M3 LTW strut-tower bar (with custom made offset adapters to clear the traction control throttle)
*M-Coupe` rear sway bar
*M roadster rear sub-frame and springs, including the big 'M' brakes with Porterfield R4S pads
*Teflon brake lines front, mid and rear
*Bilstein shcocks and struts
*Full M3 front suspention (including M3 EURO front springs)
*Full M3 front brakes, with Porterfield R4S pads
*M3 LTW adjustable front splitter
*M-Roadster rear 'diff/axles (LSD, I found out they all are)
*Forged M-double spoke II wheels (7.5x17 front and 8.5x17 rear)
*M3 three-spoke 'M' steering wheel/air bag
*M3 gage cluster
*M3 LTW door sills, door moulding plaques, and interior plaque ("BMW Motorsport International" logo)
*Radio delete with factory cover for 'hole' in dash

The car already has the 'red' cloth/black leather with red stitching sport interior- the best looking interior they've made in a long time, in my opinion... (AKA 'club sport' interior)

FUTURE 'MODS'

*M3 LTW oil pan and race pump (twin pick-up prevents starvation on hard corners)
*Oil cooler kit (hard to find parts!)
*Motorsport 2-piece 'floating' front rotors
*Motorsport 'snorkel' (intake piece on the front of the air box that also taps into the left brake cooling duct for extra air pressure)
*Motorsport seatbelts
*M3 side skirts
*M3 mirrors
*Modified M3 LTW (or M3GT Sedan) rear spoiler
*Lighted shift knob (motorsport stripes most likely, not 'M3' logo)
* Maybe some head work and a set of cams, but maybe not...

I'm planning to weigh and dyno the car this summer. I will post the results.

I think that's it. I'll post another update in about a year, or when it's done, whichever comes first.

The great thing about a factory-based upgrade is, it's easy to find the 'end', whereas a true custom is typically under constant upgrade, and the 'end' can be quite elusive. That's not a bad thing, just not my goal here. I wanted to have something the factory SHOULD have and certainly COULD have built. There are rumors of a single factory prototype being built for testing, but that rumor also states it was destroyed.

remember this: No matter how fast it is, there's always something faster... ;}

Newb here!

25 and living in Little Rock, AR

I recently got pissed off at my mustangs and sold one, then traded the other in for a 1998 Ti sport. 5 speed, of course, because [snooty voice] anything else would be uncivilized [/snooty voice]

So far its got tinted windows and the supersprint exhaust. I figured this might be a good place to look around for parts and ideas!

Hi Everybody,

I'm new here as well. I have a 95 ti. Mods for now include:
Koni Sport Adjustable shocks
H&R Race Springs
BMW X-brace
Racing Dynamics M Coupe sway bars
Korman offset control arm bushings
BAS drilled rotors and Pagid pads
Korman stainless brake lines
Milli Miglia 17" wheels and Continetal rubber
BAS chip and wires
K&N intake
cheap Ebay exaust(temporary)
MOMO shift know and pedals
Alpine CD player, Sony peakers, 8" Bazooka tube
KOBA super white lights

Parts in the waitroom:
M50 motor waiting on camshafts
LSD differential from 325is
E46 M3 style front bumper
M3 sideskirts
Front strut tower bar(6 cyl. version)
CATZ fog lights

I plan on doing this conversion right with Schrick camshafts, bored throttle body, lightweight flywheel, HD clutch... I'm sure there are questions I will have for this swap in the future. Can anyone tell me if I will need a guage cluster from a E36 6 cyl. car?

I just sold one of my two 02s for my 95ti and it is the perfect modern upgrade to a car that reminds me alot of my 02s. I still have my '71 1602 and I still drive it alot but I just can't resist blowing the AC and hearing ten speaker CD tunes.

Can't believe we got so many peeps who loves the ti from around the world! I saw the new ti which I found on BMW's UK site. I still like the 99 better. Don't like how the headlight are separated. But I welcome the new interior design.

Okay a bit about me. I am a 25 yrs old guy, who just brought a 95 ti 3 hand from Craigslist.org. It is stock with 82000 miles, been in a few accident, previous owner fixed it up. But not good enough, it is missing the front driver side grille, discoloration by the rear passenger wheel fender, you can tell it's been damaged, and repaired with wrong color. Front end hood is bended slightly.

So now I am trying to fix it up as I go, and also when the funding allows. First thing is tinting my windows, already checking out HID headlights, and possibly a paint job. Anybody know where I can go for a good paint job? From what I heard Macco don't do such a good job for $450. I got a quote from my mechanic of 3000!!! Ridiculously overpriced! I want to paint it to the nice rich blue that they had for BMW, I believed it is called the Avis Blue. not sure

I definitely want to go to a North East Meet or something!

Hi all. I'm new to the board, so I should introduce myself.

1997 318ti Sport in Arctic Silver (girlfriend's car). All stock so far.
1991 318is in Brilliant Red (girlfriend's car which is for sale now) with urethane bushings, K&N, short shift.
1988 M3 in Diamond Black, 2.3L, Bilstein Sport & Eibach Springs, Toyo RA-1, chip, exhaust, illuminated shift knob, etc.
1998 VW Jetta GLX VR6 the daily driver
1987 VW Golf GTI, 8V, fully prepared for SCCA Improved Touring B club racing

I've been a BMW Club of Canada driving instructor for three years now.

That's a start anyway.

Howdy y'all,

I have had my baby, new since May 1997. Jet Black with gray interior.
Just completed 95K miles on it and loved every minute of it.

I am 20 bought my 1998 ti in June of 2003 and have had 2 traffic tickets with her since (never had a problem in any other vehicle). I bought the car with 30,000 miles and now have 39,000 miles on it. Black with black heated leather, sunroof, a/c, PW, PL. I work on the car myself and find it fairly straightforward to work on. Future mods include ported and polished cylinder head, cam regrind, exhaust, and possible a modified intake manifold. I am also considering a supercharger from a mercedes benz SLK230 to modify to fit on the Ti.

I live in Suffolk, England, and I bought my 1989 ti from my sister in August 2003. She had been given it by her then boyfriend who had bought from the original owner for her.

It's pretty standard in Montreal Blue and with a full BMW service history. It's got the five-speed 'box, air-con, a M steering wheel, and about 70,000 miles on the clock.

I also have a 1984 525i which is a wonderful car. I bought it with 117,000 miles and it now has 215,000 miles. And a 1963 Land-Rover which I love dearly.

I'm Matt, I've had my ti for about 7 months now. So far it is bone stock, but I'm hoping to change that soon. Only taken it to the track once and it turned a 10.23 in the 1/8th mile. Oh yeah, and I am going to school in Tyler, about 2 hours east of Dallas and I live in Houston (atleast over the summer).

Hey guys, I'm Paulo. 23. San Diego, CA. 858. Had my first TI when I came back from the war last year, too bad it wasn't in a very good condition. But I still fixed it up. Just recently my friend asked me to help him out by selling the car to him cheap since he doesn't have a lot of cash to spare. And so I did. I guess doing nice things for people comes back to you ten-fold. Right before he gave me the cash, I found a same Red 1995 318ti, in a way better condition. No corrosion at all. A little bit more miles, but rides like new. Its stock to the bone, but having an experience with my last TI gives me a better idea with what to do with this one. I hope to post some pics soon... anybody else from SoCal who ride TIs?
