CD changer question

I just bought a pioneer cd changer for my bmw. I went to have it installed last night and the radio will not recognize that there are cds in the changer. I even bought the peripheral interface cable so that the stock radio would recognize the changer but it is not working for some reason. Does anybody have any suggestions? Is there something that I'm missing?

Take it back! BMW uses alpine changers and radios, I think you will have less of a problem this way. Hope this helps.

I just installed a Pioneer CDX 1250 in my '98 318ti, and it took about 5 minutes. I got the changer and hardware from autotoys.com, andit came with the adapter to work with the stock head unit. It works like a charm. Your problem might be that the Cd wiring is not hooked into the back of the head unit. I am assuming that your car is prewired for a cd changer. If not that, I have no idea. But, Pioneer will work with the right adapter. Hope this helps.
