Hi guys i've got a 95 318ti with 130kmiles on it and it's give little bother so far!

When starting up, It doesn't matter if its hot or cold etc, it does it everytime it stalls straight away. Revs jump up to 1.5k or there abouts and drop suddenly to 0 and stalls.

If I keep the revs up and drop them slowly over say 20 seconds it'll stay there and I can drive off and it'll not do it again until the next turn of the key!

Any ideas?

Could be your MAF, ICV, or DME coolant temperature sensor.

Any trouble shooting steps I can take? I know how to clean the ICV so that night be the first port of call?

Do you have a CEL on? If so read the codes and post them here with the 5 gas pedal to the floor trick.

The second half of this writeup addresses OBD1 cars. If yours is 1995 it should be OBD1.

also, check the intake boot for cracks, I had the same problem on my 95, make sure to look closely, the ribs in the boot can hide cracks
