I have a '96 318ti and I'm having some troubles with the air conditioner making noises when I turn it on and have run it for a while. I've found the service bulletins about the '95s having these troubles and wanted to know what to do about them. I bought th car used, and the previous owner had some trouble with the AC, so the dealer tried to fix it by replacing the pulleys and belts. I was surprised that they thought that was the problem if it is the same as mine currently is. The thing about it is, the car is no longer under warranty, however, when it was first fixed, it was. It may be possible to tell them that they did not fix the problems correctly and I will get the work done for free. What do you think the problems may be? Also, If it is the pulleys, I want to replace them with some aftermarket pulleys that will last a bit longer. If someone can tell me where to find these, that would be great.

Does it sounds like a GROAR!!!!
Expansion valve.
In my 98 I would get that when the cabin temp was very high.
