I have been reading on 42club and around here alot lately about turbo builds and it really apeals to me more than just a plain jane engine swap. I found this t3 style turbo and the specs seem inspressive as well as the internal waste guage. What do you guys think about it? RIght now this is mearly searching for parts and pricing out but hopefully it will be done before the summer is over if i can gather up the cash.

Getting my popcorn ready. That looks like quality merchandise, but there is always negative speculation on inexpensive turbo parts. For that price I don't think it should hurt much. I plan on doing a turbo build pretty soon, so I will be checking in to see how it goes if you decide to do it.

I am down, especially if the turbos are that cheap. Don't care if they blow fast, I just need to get my foot in the door at least.

i have pondered doing a turbo build myself but i plan on getting a nice little e30 318 to daily drive while the project goes on

I don't think it would take me long to get it done, its just getting it all together.

why did the guy on m42 club take down his diy

people were trash talking him and stating that it wouldnt work. they were saying he was just making up numbers pretty much.

if you pm him he should still help you out

Why do you say this? The M42 seems like it was destined for a nice turbo build. And in my defense I have read Corky Bells' book on turbo charging in and out serveral times so i have a pretty good idea on what i'm looking for.

I've seen plenty of Turbo m42'ed e30's around but less than a handfull of turbo'ed Ti's. Just more incentive to do it:wink:. If i am able to scrounge up the cash before this summer is out I will do a full write-up on it with plenty of pics. If not then it will be a good winter project.

I did a homemade turbo once (on my 1999 Hyundai Accent), it's harder and costs more than you think...

With that in mind, I've still considered doing it again on the ti.

With the last setup, I made everything - the manifold, the intercooler pipes, the new throttle body setup, everything. If I had my way on the ti, I'd at least try to source a manifold, as that's really the hardest part to get right.

Here's the new owner driving it.

I had the same dream and am on my second engine and ecu. it is alot faster but the tune is the hard thing to do. you need a piggy back. i went through motronic and i don't even like looking at my car anymore. plus you can't shift fast because the air flow mass meter door doesn't move fast enough. you would have to convert to a 6 cyl open style. My car has sat for 2 years and was built for 3. I don't even like coming on here because stock 318's suck and no one knows **** about FI really besides DASC which is a good system but people like you and I can't take the easy route can we? My 240 makes 400rwhp and was 2,000 stock plus another 1,500 for the turbo kit. It was cheaper, has a better car following, and will blow the doors off almost anything on the street. sorry for ranting but I have over 13,000 dollars into my 318 and it would probably only run a 13 in the 1/4 mile.

REDIS, I remember seeing your posts back when you got your manifold [possibly on bimmerforums?]. What did you use for your tune? Did you jump into the electronic fuel tune or did you start with an FPR? What turbo do you run?

the tuning was done by a guy who does motronic on VW's. he just threw the chip in a chip burner and went through all the maps..revs,fuel,etc. I have a Garret gt28rs dual ball bearing. "disco potato" boost is at 2800. I am currently cleaning up my car and will be throwing it up on ebay soon. I will make a post to the link when ever i do. if two people from this site bought my car for parts even they would be very happy.

thats what you did wrong! You wasted your time on the hyundai accent instead of the ti!
