(Currently) hailing from Bloomington/Normal Il, home of the Illinois State University Redbirds, the CO from M*A*S*H (not Potter) and Just Jack (skinny guy on a show my wife watches).
The '95 318ti joins a '00 Passat Wagon (V6, AWD), an '89 Tercel and a '94 Sentra SE-R. My wife thinks I have a disease, as I have never been able to sell a car. My '99 Pasat was totaled by an inattentive cop (pantagraph.com) and I kept an old VW fox alive until it made me mad enough to host a sawzall party (no pictures, poor planning). Every car I have owned has been abandoned, given away, or thrown away itty bitty piece at a time (Sawzall WILL cut cast iron, by the way).
I really want to boost the power of my ti at least to the level of the SE-R (my Nissan buds call the 318 a rich man's SE-R and I want to smoke 'em).
I'm 30 by the way, in case my pile of cars led some to believe I've got a herd of teenagers out crashing into things.

I always felt that BMW NA has always treated the Compact as some bastard stepchild. They never really promoted it. The dealers made little money on them.
What they don't realize is most people who bought a Compact stuck with the marque. That may have been their marketing all along.

I agree. This is my first bimmer and I cannot be more shocked at my experience. I bought it sort of on a whim because of the cali roof and great condition. I've kept it because of bimmer enthusiasts like you guys (and that cali roof- woo hoo!). :P Compact people are different than normal BMW drivers. We drive the underdog. The grunt. And we seem to love it. Hell, it's easy to buy a high milage M3 and cruise around impress people. Be different- go ti!
This now ends the preaching to the choir segment of our show. You may resume modifying your cars now. ;}

Fairly new to the 318ti.org site.
Found a cool parts supply place. Small independent shop run by an older couple. EJS Auto parts in north hollywood. Saved me on a saturday afternoon with a starter in stock. I hate having to order stuff in the middle of a job. Was in their shop yesterday for a brake wear sensor and they invited me and my wife to sit for coffee and cookies !
Nice people, reasonable prices I think. 10 bucks for the rear sensor, 120 for the starter (Exchange).
