I wont argue anyone's taste in music. But, I will simply say that anyone can become accustomed to every artist/genre. My reasoning is that there is a time, place, person, or event to which we associate musical perception. For example, I hated metal until I made a friend who is a fanatic and we would game online all night listen to it. Over time I learned how to incorporate the style to bring out aggression and make me into a killing machine. I never use to like electronic music until I met a dutch guy and went to Europe where we partied every night to it in clubs. I picked up new/underground rap from Ohio and Florida, country from Texas, acoustic from Cali/Az/Utah, and alternative in Missouri. I'm just saying there is a time and place for every kind of music, it just depends if you're in the right ambiance. As for the albums you listed, I have most of them, just not the old school ones except some KRS-one and Ice T. I have about 180gb of media and there's no way to list it all.

Actually the Techno/Dance/Club music scene is resurging worldwide, just not as quickly here in the US... Plus when I was a club kid, the New Wave and dance music was the hottest thing, so I DJ'ed that and played it on the air back then... It will always hold a special place for me...

I would have made this my original post, but I make it a point not to listen to this unless I am on a great road.

I see that they finally decided to re-record this and make it shorter. This song took up all of side one on the original album in '74. Clocked in at around 20 minutes, maybe a little more. A fitting road song but back when I was doing the cross country living in a van thing years ago I preferred Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express, it just seemed to go along with the size of what I was driving at the time. And no, I did not own the album in '74, I had the cassette in the mid '80's...

Also nice for the road is their track from 84 called Tour de France. It was done for the race since at least half of Kraftwerk was really into cycling. But if you can find a copy of that I think you will agree that it makes for a good driving song too.

Ahhhh yes, Parliament/Funkadelic!!!! Two groups that I wanted to see so bad back then but I was too young and my sister ratted me out to my dad when she overheard my older friends plotting to sneak me into the coliseum. They put on some legendary shows and that music is still great listening today! George Clinton was indeed the man back then. Would have loved to have been there when they were doing acid trips off the coast of Florida looking for UFO's!

Probably showing my age here but WTH....

My tastes vary by a HUGE degree.. I'll listen to mainly Pink Floyd, Gilmours new "Live in GDansk" album is brilliant, specially disk two. Other than that I'll play AC/DC.. Gary Numan, The Pogues, The Cars (Oh Yeah!!), Jude Cole, Mi-Sex, Greenday, Aerosmith.. anything with a bit of a beat and discernable lyrics which typically counts most if not all (c)rap out all together...

Dude! They'll be here on August 1st at Fiddler's Green...I'll have to see if I have that night off from work. So much going on right now it's hard to plan anything. Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago will also be here and the last time they were here they got rave reviews...so I've been wanting to go see them and I'm off that night. I'll have to see what's what!

I would offer everyone to checkout some tunes from Nujabes (Jun Seba). Though he past a bit over a year ago by an unfortunate car accident, he's a japanese hip-hop producer and DJ whose been producing some of the more finer instrumentals in his genre. The samples he takes mixed with his imaginative talent is clearly shown through what he produces (in my opinion). So give him a listen and we can maybe see how beautiful Jun saw the world. I Usually mellow to him when I'm coming home from work late in the morning. Just Perfect.

I know most of you don't like country music, but in my diversity I've grown to appreciate all types of music as art. I try to take it all in. Anyway, this has always been one of my favorite country tunes. I hope some of you can enjoy it as much as I have:

I have to say, I'm not much of a country fan either, but some of my fondest childhood memories involve listening to Merle's Greatest Hits on 8-track in the passenger seat of my dad's 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. I would love to have that car today...

Just seen Prince last night @ The Forum in Inglewood, CA. That guy hasn't aged a day since the 80's. Seats were awesome, I was like 5 rows back from the stage so we were level with the performers, not looking up or down at them. Also, he faced in our direction the majority concert. Sheila E. made a guest appearance and performed "The Glamorous Life". Unbelievable show!

Prince is a bad-ass mofo! I don't care what anybody says...being a semi-pro musician myself, I totally appreciate the fact he still has the creative spark and is still very much relevant in the homogenized world of popular music. There are only as handful of musician/artists in the world today who can write, arrange, record/engineer, produce, and distribute all by themselves. Not to mention being a total monster multi-instrumentalist. Yeah....I give it up for the man.

cooljess76
05-09-2011, 01:12 AM
Yeah, I've wanted to see Prince since I was a little kid. So much talent, so much funk. It goes way beyond his music too. His style and everything he's done to help young artists find their true talent. He brings out so much energy from his fans. The stadium was literally shaking, I thought it was going to colapse! After the show I was walking across the parking lot and it felt like I had just stepped off of an elevator or boat.

I highly recommend seeing him in person. Even if you're not into his music, I'm sure there's at least one song that'll make you get up and dance!

Dunno if it has been mentioned... probably not, but... I am a particular fan of Track 13. Thats the name of the song... its from the pirates of the carribean soundtrack, like a hidden track or something, at the end. LOVE that song. I have a very eclectic taste in music, but I really like the upbeat instrumentals sometimes found in techno, but also classical music... but I listen to just about everything and am willing to give anything a try. I'll get a link up later.

Wow

I have never heard of most of the music in this thread! But I guess that's because I NEVER listen to the radio and I don't watch television (Pop culture makes me grumpy).

I only ever listen to metal (well, what I consider to be metal... but what does and does not fall into that genre and its sub-genres is a subject of great controversy).

For example, I love '...And Justice for All' by Metallica (some consider it thrash metal, others hard rock, or any number of other labels). Whatever you call it, its freaking awesome!!

Recently I've been listening to Devildriver, Lamb of God and Machinehead when I'm in my 318ti. Which actual song is best for driving would be hard to pick... although "Walk With me in Hell" by Lamb of God comes to mind

My first bike was a YZ80 back when I was 10 years old. I've had several since then, but it wasn't until I picked up my last bike, a '73 CB350, that I felt like a kid again. Rode it for a few years until it threw a rod bearing, then instead of tearing it apart and fixing it, I sold it to some guy from Norway.

Good memories on that old rocket. Riding on the freeway always brought this tune into my head:

I couldn't agree with you more about driving without music. The engine makes the most beautiful music.

^ As with most good songs, pop radio has destroyed this by overplaying the crap out of it. It is a really good song, but I've about had my fill of it. Have to hear it 3-4 times a day at work.

My ultimate driving song will always be thunderkiss '65

These guys are pure audio caffeine. Great for the drive to work in the morning and great for the afternoon drive home when you're dragging a little bit.

I've noticed that pretty much anything will make me speed in my ti but I last time I was on a curvy road I was listening to bad meets evil and it seemed to do the trick

A few good songs in a wide genre that get me pumped or just feeling good.
I get pumped with Kanyes work out plan from kanye west, monster, and Power also from kanye. Any Gorillaz with the 10 speaker surround sounds beautiful. Heart of the lion by Kid cudi, and a duet band called the XX (male and female singers) is very heartfelt and warm. just some suggestions.

I was 8 years old, USA just kicked major ass in the '84 olympics. My Aunt had just bought a brand new gold 1984 Corvette with license plates "GLD MDL" in light of our athletic success. She also bought me a track suit and I was to be the next long distance runner. And just like Forest, I ran and I ran. Little did I know, but those dreams would later shift towards boxing. I was Kid Dynamite before Mike Tyson, lol. I remember how great Billy Ocean and Luther Vandross sounded in her Corvette. I remember what it was like to be 8 years old with big dreams. Although many of those dreams never panned out, the important thing is that I still remember.

That's quite a story there Kid Dynamite, here is a song from a hardcore era from which I am not familiar with but I was probably swimming in my daddy's sack at this time.

We didn't have a corvette but had one of these.

When I drive my 328i (http://www.peterpanbmw.com/inventory.aspx?_vstatus=3,4,5&_new=true&_model=3+series), I prefer Tom Cochrane: Life is a highway or Thin Lizzy: Boys are back in town.

I found a great station on Pandora radio, its under electronic, and its called "chill out". A lot of the music on it reminds me of MattRach, mixed with a little dubstep. If you have Pandora check it out.
