Hello everyone my name is Paul, I have a 1998 318ti (m44) with a Downing Atlanta supercharger.
My problems are:
Clutch slippage: After 32,000 miles of hard driving on the supercharger I am starting to feel slippage at W.O.T. coming out of hard cornering. I have heard you can put the 280mm clutch on a ti. Has anyone done this and does it require a different flywheel or other parts?
Major oil leak:
Just yesterday I was working on another car and noticed a large patch of oil under my ti, it appears to be coming from the rear of the engine. I checked the coolant and it was low also. My first thought was head gasket. A compression test came back excellent. I have not done any other diagnostics yet but I fear it is the rear main seal. Has anyone changed their rear main on the m44, if so does the oil pan have to be removed? Also any other hints as to why the coolant loss. The Peake research tool reported the pre-catalytic O2 sensor as being bad but that was all. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very appreciated.
