Hi. Does anyway know what this is? Looks like some soft of restrictor or secondary air box?
Car's a 2004 E46 318i.

It's the interkit for the turbonator. I've got 2 of those now :D

I bet it's a resonating chamber to reduce intake noise. The M44 engine has one, but it looks a little different than that.

Bullman, you beat me to it. Yeah, that should be a resonator. Like Bullmand said, it reduces intake noise by interfering with the intake pulses.

Bullmand & Trickiekid, thank you! Since it's a resonator, should be ok to remove it. It's flapping around in engine bay, so either I need to tie it down or remove it (might need to buy new intake tube though). Guys, thanks again.

You should be able to remove it, assuming that it has no sensors attached to the part. Legally, i am not sure of, but I wouldn't think that it serves any purpose for smog. I have seen lots of people remove similar boxes and cover the holes with black duct tape. Let us know what you decide to do.

Aplogies for newbie question. Would removal of resonator decrease low end / take off power? Was adviced to keep resonator there.
