Just found the site, i am picking up a 1997 318ti tonight(already paid). I do plan on swapping the engine to a 328 in a few months. M3 swap is to much for me especially with my second child on the way. Looks like a very helpful site...

I do have a few qustions!

If i get a 1997 328i engine will i still need to replace the wiring and the ECU.?
Can i use the 1997 328i suspension and brake system?
Does the engine drop right in?
Do i need to install the radiator and AC from the 1997 328i
Can i leave the original exhaust?
Do i have to do any welding?

i do plan on upgrading it but i cannot do it all at one shot. My dad has a car shop and my brother helps him run it but i do not know anything about cars but they are more into racing imports. I guess i was interested in other things when i was small. But that should cut down my labor price because they are very good and know how to work on BMW's.

I plan on doing the swap and have it running with some stock parts until i have cash to upgrade them. What stock parts can i keep and what parts are need to be upgraded during the swap? I know i am asking a lot and i already looked around but i could not find a corrent answer.

Thanks guys

328 uses twin cats. You will need to make a Y connector.
I'd change the suspension and brakes.
You will need the ECU with the motor and will probably need to get the EWS and ECU aligned at the dealer. The radiator and plumbing is going to be different.

Look at the engine swap (http://www.318ti.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26) section.

welcome, stock diff is one part that needs to be changed when doing a swap, a diff from an E30 (81-91 3-series) will fit, as well as one from a Z3 roadster or coupe

buy a wrecked 328 or M3, that way you'll have 99% of the parts needed for the swap. Then part out the rest of the parts not used to help recover from the cost of the swap.

Damn you steal my car? Oh wait mine doesn't quite look like that anymore. Nice car, but then again I'm partial to silver.
