Hey guys,
definitely not new to BMW's, and the ti... I owned a 98' Avus Blue Sport back in 98' . Anywho... Just bought this car a week ago for 3900, and already have done some stuff to it. Kenwood (Head) with XM & iPod, went to Sacramento to a yard and got the rear speakers (covers & Speakers) & the rear hatch cover, leather shift knob, AC knob, Hazards light switch from a recently wrecked ti, for $100... installed Depo p36 Headlights (Freaking cool), and the front lip
these little cars are lots of fun, I enjoyed the one I had 10 years ago, and I sure will enjoy this one as well

lol...
Forgot to mention I had to fix the passenger window, (new clips and grease),
gotta put in new brakes, Ordered a new Key (with the chip from BMW) the car had only one, and had to replace a light bulb on the AC controls. The car had a bad vibration at 80 MPH, got the tires balanced and found out 3 wheels were bent, but now it rides fine, and I replaced the passenger side handle cover as well... I think that about covers it...

The one I had back in 98', I had on it:

OEM M3 Front lip
OEM M3 Mirrors
OEM M3 Mesh Grill
K&N Drop in
Eibach springs
M Contour wheels
M rear wing
323ti rear valance
Supersprint Exhaust
VDO Gages (VOLT, OIL Temp, OIL Pressure) where ashtray goes...

It was my first BMW and I loved it!...

We'll see how this one turns out:biggrin:

yoda

I made it myself from a DIY guide I found online back in the day. If you don't mind losing the ashtray and relocating the lighter, then it shouldn't be a problem.
The base for the pod will be that part where the ashtray and lighter are located, will need a piece of plastic to place the gauges on, a few screws, a dremel tool, and relocate the lighter next to the hazards light switch. I have pictures of it but I will have to scan them first....remember this was back before digital:biggrin:...

Jess:
let me know how much you want for the swap parts, and I'll see how soon I can come up with the dough...

Stock Shocks and it handles like it should, it's just a bit stiffer but the ride didn't suffer at all.

the only thing in your case would be that you have an Active, and your suspension is not the same as a Sport. I think the suspension on your car is about 1/2 in. taller, plus the Shock/struts have softer Damping as well. You could try it I guess... It's always worth a try... Mine are still in fairly good shape but I would love to upgrade them to Blistein Sports when I get the chance/money!...
If not that RD package for $400 is the way to go for you... I wanted it but needed the money for the extra parts I needed for the LSD swap, so I just did Springs...

I think if I had saved all that I've spent on reconditioning and upgrades, I could've had the Manual swap by now... But the car would not be in the condition it is right now... so I guess it is somewhat of a nice trade...for now!...

Thanks....
way too sunny out here to have NO TINTS... if you ask me the tint law out here in California makes no sense but to each its own!... they'll allow you to have the rear of the car as dark as can be (or want it)... but NO TINTS on the front!... where the driver would actually need them... they could at least allow a maximum of 35% all around, and there would not be a problem with cops being able to look inside the vehicle...
As to the wheels... I WANT DS-2's... but would settle for DS-1's:biggrin:

exactly the same as Vermont, the cops in my area are d*cks and really enforce it too :frown:

Will'sBimmer

LoL. In memphis the cops don't care about tint at all. I know people with everything 5% and even have the front windshield tinted. You can't see in the car at all. I have 5% in the back and 10% in the front. I have never been pulled over and I have only been told once by some guy at the inspection place to make the strip up front smaller. He said it was too long. I still haven't done anything about it. As long as they keep passing me, I don't mind.

Car is looking good by the way Yoda! I like it. It is similar to the style I am going for mine. Get the DS2's I have them and love them.

I think so. I have seen cars with it here and I have never heard or seen someone getting pulled over for it. They just care about the color. Like no blue or strobes up front. Basically don't impersonate a cop and your fine. Pretty much a lot is legal to do to your car here. The cops have more things to worry about.

Sorry for going off topic. :frown:

 Hopefully in the coming week my ti will be sporting new DS-1's... Hell Yeah baby!....
On another note... yesterday I exchanged the cushions with coverings from the driver side to passenger side... that way the worn out bolsters are now on the inside of the car in the passenger side and not as noticeable... took me freaking 5 hrs to do the whole thing...I exchanged the backrest frame as well since apparently the previous owner had broken it and had it fixed/welded not so well... it looks and feels like I have a somewhat new interior now!....

tiFreak
03-18-2009, 10:15 PM
5 hours just to make the worn out leather slightly less noticable? I didn't even know that the cushions could be exchanged from drivers to passengers side

yoda
03-19-2009, 02:57 AM
Yep... took me longer to figure out what to do and how, but I went in knowing that the cushions/covers were interchangeable from one side to the other...
It is a huge difference when you open the driver side door and look inside, since that edge of the seat has not seen that much action... it looks freaking new... and the one on the passenger doesn't look bad either since the outer edge is the one without the worn out spots on the bolsters, so it retains the look of slightly new instead of worn out...

I would say it was worth the time invested, I'll post pics when I get the new wheels!...

Yep... just sat the car angled on that side for the sun to hit it.... and it peeled off no problem. For some reason the camera doesn't pick blemishes that well, but the moldings on the sides have grayed/faded spots while front and back were re-sprayed and are all black...

Would a 400 grit wet sanding take care of the wheels? at least to get rid off the brake dust oxidation... before I re-paint/finish them.

400 grit would be good for finishing prior to a re-spray... You may need a 320 in a couple of spots, then 400...

It's the only thing about the DS-1's that I don't like, the center being so big, but I do love the BMW MOTORSPORTS lettering on them!...
The only future cosmetic mods to come will most likely be M3 Mirros and M3 Skirts... maybe French Yellow Fogs (Not Sure on those yet). Not really much money in the bank for more crap, plus I will most likely be heading out for BASIC in a couple of weeks and when I get back from that I'll be sent out to OCS... so my time is pretty much null for more mods as well for quite some time.

But anyway your car looks sweet, and i like your steering wheel more than I have myself  Only thing that you missed are mirrors, if you install M mirrors than it will be a pure baby M3....

You actually have an M Sport 3 Spoke Steering Wheel, it was used on (at least in the US) 99 M3's and M Coupe/Roadsters.
My wheels is a Euro Spec 3 Spoke, I bought on eBay, from a guy in Germany that Re-Covers them with new leather and Tri-color M Stitching.

Ok ) by the way you have the same entirior as I do )
Hey one question more, are those wheels are from M3 or some special wheels. One guy here sels almost the same wheels but they are a little bit difrent they are taken from M3 coupe and they are different front are 8 inches and rear are 9. Can I put them on compact.

Wicked;

The wheels Yoda has are called Style 22's (or Double Spoke 1's - DS1's), and the ones in the link you have are Style 23's (Double Spoke 2's - DS2's). Both are us spec M3 wheels, the DS1's came on 95 and early 96 M3's, the DS2's came on later models...

Yes the wheels on my car are from a 95' M3, any M3 Wheel will fit the car no problem as long as it is from an E36.

Looking real sharp! The paint on the mirrors and skirts is matched well and looks nicely done. Good Job!

When you leaving for FL?

mirrors and skirts look excellent for a DIY spray-paint job, I like that headunit too, the buttons look like a close match for the factory amber
