I'm also a "newbie" I hope my mechanic ok's the car for purchase. A 1996 Ti. Any help to get the car up to "standards" would be much appreciated and welcome. Thanks again.

How many miles are on it? I would change all of the fluids, so you know for sure when they need to be done again.

54k on the car fellas. Mechanic gave it mostly a clean bill of health, I am haing dealer flush and fill anti-freeze, but mechanic failed car on rotors and brake pads front and rear. Dealer is starting to piss me off, and I might walk. Stay tuned.

Because it needs pads and rotors?

Pads and rotors are easy DIY jobs.
Just find someone in your area to show you one time and you'll be doing it yourself everytime.

i have '96 base model. just did front rotors
and fr&rr pads. bought pbr deluxe pads
and replacement rotors from bavarian autosport. very easy install. be sure and get anti-squeal stuff to coat back of pads
before installation. no dust and no squeal.

Hello all:
Update on the 54k 318ti. I walked from the car not because of rotors or brake pads, but because the dealer who told me not to worry that the price was negotiable, decided not to negotiate when my mechanic found a few things wrong with the car. Mind you, brakes, were about the only serious place the car got knocked on, and by NYS law this dealer had to replace and repair the brakes. He just started hemming and hawing, and I didn't want to deal with a dealer like this. So i think I have found another one. A 1997 318ti sports "M" package. One owner car from Maryland with about 80k on her. I know the mileage is a bit high, but a car not driven exclusively in NYC, hopefully will be ok.
