So my water pump broke today ... had to haul it to the mechanic ... fortunately he only charged me $380 ... he replaced a pulley, two belts, and the water pump ...
I'm kinda worried cuz the car's only got 41,000 miles on it .. should I be worried ? I'm not really an expert, I'm learning as I go, ... I was sooo pissed off about the pump that I was considering whether the 318ti was good for me ...

That's too bad about the waterpump. http://www.happytogether.com/318ti/forum/frown.gif Even more too bad about the 380 clams. Especially when you think about the fact that parts were only about 100, tops.
I don't think I'd get too worried that it could be an indicator of troubles to come. Waterpumps are known to let go. I've got 91K miles and haven't replaced mine yet. I'm curious about anyone else having this happen.... Does it give any warning? Strange sounds? Or does it just get hot? I would rather get a jump on it for a few $$ and do it on my time, rather than the other way around.

I replaced mine recently, as a precaution. I had heard a friend with a ti who, on a drive from MN to Banff had the pump blow in the middle of South Dakota. She didn't know what happened and drove a little ways further, thus melting her motor.
I replaced mine at 62K miles. It's worth it for peace of mind. The newer pump impellers are metal, not plastic, and should last many more miles than the original.
