how does the ti stand up agaisnt the RICERS?

It doesn't.
Then again I don't see many ricers at the track. Road course tracks that is.
A ti doesn't make for a good stop light drag racer. It's the wrong car for it.

I don't know, there are a couple Civics and Accords around where I live and they get beat every time we pull up to the light together.
------------------
Why look like all my friends at high school and drive a civic, when I can beat them in my TI?

I've went against many on the road. I have yet to see one that can keep up. Then again, I'm running around 220hp, DASCed, and all the other normal mods. I know of one worthy ricer in the area which is a CRX that is a MR with an NSX engine in it. I've never ran against him, wouldn't if I had the chance either. This guy runs high 9's in the 1/4.

I totally disagree. I drag race all the time here. I'm smoking anything under a Civic VTI or Corolla Tsport and even with those I put a fierce battle. All I've got under the hood is an intake and a restriction free exhaust.
It's all about the driver :P

well i would like to let you know whats up on my experiences of dragin :P. aite i raced my friends mitsu 2002 lancer with freeflow apex exhaust... intake..and thats about it engine wise. he has stock like 120hp. i can smoke him by like a car or 2, i next raced my friends stock bmw 2000 323i lol..i got raped a new asshole. he smoked me hardcore. then i slapped on my intake like im a cool guy lol and raced my friends civic hatchback 95' with intake and exhaust piping ONLY ..no can..hah anywyas
it was dope cuz i raced him and going into 2nd gear i chirped my gears :D then smoked him. i know how to race now..let the rpm get to the red line haha i never did before now i do and i guess my car aint that slow after all..

I drive a near stock and automatic '95 ti (changes are mostly aesthetic except for exhaust and wheels) and I have taken out a few civics on the highway, haven't had the opportunity to race one from a light yet. I've beat a handful of civics and eclipses.
I've lost to two integras, one had a turbo, a 4-door saturn with turbo and a bottle, one of the turbo model eclipses (an older one '93?) and a few more I can't really think of, oh, and a dodge viper.
So, I've lost more than i've won, but to all of them (except the viper) I just think to myself..."But look what he's driving, who cares if it's faster!"

When I first started working on my car and I had only an intake I raced a Prelude, I was about evenly matched, but I would allways beat him off the line. I put my 1st Exhaust system in, and of course the intake and I raced an Automatic 328is, and I beat him too (the front of his car was in the middle of my door) the only other civic that I raced was the same night, and he had a huge turbo and innercooler. I lost to him but the front of my car was about his back bumper. I have cince gone through 2 Exhaust systems and done some upgrades, I would now rape both of them. :D

I just bought a '95 club sport, and it feels about the same as my '91 prelude Si for power. The prelude was rated at 140, but was slightly low do to lower compression from worn rings. The prelude had a tad more torque off the line from the 2.1 liter engine. The BMW revs easier, but the prelude had a smoother transmission. Acceleration was virtually identical for both vehicles. In the handling department, the edge would go to the BMW, but the prelude was still good. It is just that the prelude lacked feeling, the steering was numb and the suspension to soft.
What I like about the bimmer:
The driving feel, especially the steering
The gas mileage, I have been getting 25-35 mpg
The headroom, I have extra, the prelude I was about 2 inches short.
Its a BMW
What I liked about the prelude:
The transmission, never driven a honda manual? Drive one! (prelude, s2000, etc)

lol i think we ALL met our match even if you have a 332ti, i raced my friends 2001 porsche carrera, uhm all i can see after 1st and 2nd gear was his taillights, barely, they were so far away and my vision aint that great. if you guys want to race a good car, porsche can take 90degree turns at 90mph, bone out from 0-100 in a heartbeat, i go with him all the time and he smokes corvettes, benz, bimmers, you name it. we have yet to race ferrari and lambo's. hah im lucky to have a friend that drives that kinda car. sad thing is, you may think hes spoiled cuz hes only my age (18-) :) yes all of us are jealous cuz not all of us can have parents that give porsches for free

The first time i raced in the street, i got raped by a Porsche Carrera 4. To my great satisfaction though, ten seconds later a 2001 M3 came outta the blue and raped him..

Wow I remember this post. Well since I'm here I'll update:
Since my previous post I've had a few "races". I've won against another handful of civics, most of them from a rolling start (40-45+mph start). I can never beat them from a light (especially since mine is an automatic) but by the time I hit 4th gear I've caught up and can actually pass them.
I raced my buddies 95 Celica GT (Standard Transmission) twice one night on a road which was "about" 1/4mile in length, but not a true 1/4 mile. The first time he won. I screwed up dropping the car into drive, my Ti is an Automatic. Revved too high and the safety wouldn't let me ram it in, which is probably a good thing. The second time I did it just right (held it at about 2500 rpm) and put it into drive with a slight squeal of the tires. Beat him.. barely. I believe our two cars are just about dead even in a 1/4mile.
I've lost to two Vipers (Since my car is orange.. everyone wants to race me), and a porche of some kind. Though, that should be completely expected. I also lost to a crotch rocket, but he was gone before I had even pressed the gas all the way down lol. I get "offered" to race by hondas and other cars of that class often, but usually ignore them.
The one win I am poud of was beating an early 90s model Camaro. Granted.. it was the 6cyl. version and it appeared to be in bad shape. But I was still happily suprised for that win.
Oh yes, almost forgot, we can keep up with Chevy 1500 trucks off the line and beat them top end. I raced a guy almost 100 miles off and on through El Paso, Texas into west texas. We'd race for a mile, playing with each other, then one of us would have to get off the highway. Then I'd see him a bit later either by catching up with him, or him with me. That made the long trip a bit more fun :)

Everytime I race, I wear the 318ti badge with pride :D
Even my friend with a Honda NSX is afraid to race me :p

i raced a slightly modded civic this weekend, and I got beat, just barely. He had intake, exhaust, headers, cams, and some suspension work.
-So Raima, would you recommend an engine swap or s/c kit?

How does a stock or fairly stock 318ti with few upgrades compare with all other cars out there as far as Horsepower and speed. I know it doesn't compare to my buddy's new WRX STI, but where do we stand with all the Japanese cars. Haven't really raced anyone, but curious to see what the performance is on the TI.

lol, the WRX STI would make us its beeyotch. But you have to consider that thing is running 300 BASE horsepower and is All-Wheel Drive. That car is in a class with vettes, don't even consider it.
Look at base model Honda Civics, Toyota Celicas, Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Tiburons, for a more challenging race where you have a chance to win. These cars are close enough in numbers that driver skill will likely determine the winner.

Either is fine and will increase the power. It really comes down to ur preference and budget.
Personally, if a customer had a large budget and wanted over 300bhp, I'd suggest an engine swap with a supercharger :)

07-13-2004, 05:24 AM
**** man, engine swap with supercharger would be sick! I dunno, I'm debating on either just getting a e36 m3 and rebuilding the engine with a turbo, or just swapping my engine as it is. I just love the way the ti looks

For horsepower it is low, only 138, for acceleration it is slow, about 8-8.5 s to 60. However, for fun to drive factor, there aren't many cars better than the Sport 318ti (with a 5 speed). It is relatively light, about 2700 lbs, which is less than most new cars. And they handle better than most cars. It feels very nimble and not bulky like most new cars do.
Horsepower is overrated anyway, a car doesn't need much to be fun to drive. I drove a Hemi Magnum Wagon, sure it was fast (very f-ing fast), but it was no fun to drive. It had very little feel, and it felt like driving a boat. The visibility was terrible, and the thing was HUGE. It was worse to drive then a full size pickup (where at least you have good visibility).

my friend has an old ford pickup truck....his 0-60 time is about 16 seconds lol. my best 0-60 time was about 9 seconds. my car is completely stock though. im still working on my parents to let me get a dinan engine chip or transmission chip since i have an auto. :(

I raced my cousin in his five series and only lost by about 30 ft. bone stock.
raced a few civics on the highway- 65-70mph roll on . NO Problem.
well I was playing with an integra on the loop the other day (several 20-60 pulls) and I walked away from him ever time.
cool cool. Usually, the Japanese imports are heavy... OR just underpowered. For example, I just read that a 200sx in 97 produced 120HP , a se-r makes 140hp, and weighs around 3200... freak'n silly, thats what a typical mustang weighs and makes roughly 100 more hp stock.
I think the lightest Nippon import that could actually be considered a performance car in my book would be the RX7.
Course, the ti is not real performance oriented in stock form either.. but it doesn't weight 3200lbs!

My brother got an Integra GSR earlier this year. 8000rpm redline, 170hp, 2650lbs... it is quick. 15.6 lbs per pony.
I know its faster than my Ti, but once the DASC comes... we'll see what 13.6 pound per pony can do! :2gun:
(stock Ti is about 20.7 lbs/hp)
is that a v6 integra or a 4cyl? there is a v6 right?
integras only came with a 4 cyl.
for some reason i thought maybe they offered it w/ v6. Ohwell, must be another acura

If we're considering my 1980 Datsun 280zx a ricer, the ti will take it off the line. It's a 3 speed auto so it suffers from the dead stop. But anywhere over 30mph I LOVE the 280, it pulls so nice well past the 85mph speedo. Our cars through 1st and 2nd gear are pretty quick I've found, especially if you know how to launch and shift well.
well, my old 280ZX would slaughter the ti, but I also had a 5 spd, plus some other goodies :pistols:

Well, I raced a honda civic hatchback and beat the guy pretty bad. Afterwards, the guy followed me to ask me what do I have in my engine. I have a cold air intake and a supresprint exhaust. He had an intake, performance exhaust and a performance chip. It felt good!
I raced a newer VW GTI Im not sure if it was a 1.8Turbo or a VR6 but I was able to kill it off the line and to the next traffic light that was about 3 blocks away.
I also drive on the PA turnpike a lot and every now and then I run into a few M3 and we cruise at about 110-115 mph for a good distance until one of slows down.

It probably was a 1.8 Turbo. VR6's are pretty fast. That's cool still. What do you have in your engine?

According to Edmunds specs (US):
2003 Civic EX 1.7L
2555 lbs.
127 hp
114 tq
1999 Civic SI 1.6L
2601 lbs.
160 hp
111 tq
1999 318ti 1.9L
2778 lbs.
138 hp
133 tq
If you calculate out the weight/power ratios for each, the '03 Civic and 318ti are about equal with the 318 having a bit better weight/torque ratio.
(Since I used weight/power instead of power/weight the lower # would be better)
The SI's weight/hp ratio is much better than the 318's, though the 318 does have a better weight/torque ratio than the SI does, but the advantage isn't as large as the SI's.
What's good about asian imports is they seem to be able to get much more hp out of a smaller amount of liters. They generally don't get much more torque though.
It probably was a 1.8 Turbo. VR6's are pretty fast. That's cool still. What do you have in your engine?
I haven't done anything to my car yet. Though I am about to replace my clutch. My throw out bearing is going.

Then it was not the 1.8T or he was not racing, or he could not drive.
