When I'm driving I like Linkin Park. Also, the Resident Evil soundtrack is awesome. For the rap fans, how about some Ludacris? Just my $0.02

I like techno, the spanish station (don't ask), and I've recenly decided 311 has got some nice driving music. Linkin Park is allright for me, I like the Smashing Pumpkins a lot, but it all depends on my driving mood.

I personally like some Slipknot and some Hatebreed. Mudvayne every once in a while, and Taproot whenever I feel like I need to calm down a little... I also listen to my CD whenever I feel like some road rage. Check out my bands site. We have three downloads on there from our CD. Check it out!

Cool about the band... I only heard a lil bit, but I liked what I heard. Check out my band's site at http://www.burningabbey.com we don't have any music on there due to the fact that we're kinda paranoid about copyright issues right now... We don't want people stealing our music then claiming it as theirs... We're a pop punk band though. We're still working on getting the site finished. I'm cory for website reference... oh, and a personal little bragging effort made by me is here... http://www.burningabbey.com/corysamp.jpg

Pretty cool man. Not really into punk, you might've seen that from my site, but hey, to each their own, and I TOTALLY respect you and your band! Rock on man... I am the lead singer in my band, have been for about 5 years now, and we have had our ups and downs. All I can say is about the copyright issue is that it is really easy to resolve, BUT, it will cost ya... We had to get our CD produced and get the UPC's and everything, and then the copyright was free as a bonus, so that was the best way for us, but everyone is different, but hey, good luck with everything, I wish ya the best in the future with your band!!!

Queens of the Stoneage is my favorite band to drive to...ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING REALLY REALLY FAST!
Also, Tool...I can't remember who it was that posted Lateralus but whoever that was...thank you. Aenima by Tool is also an awesome album to drive to minus all of the sound tracks.

Wow, it's been like 10 months and someone finally responded! hahaha Anyways, yeah, Tool is awesome. Gotta love it. I have found all sorts of good music to listen to in the last 10 months. The new Slipknot is pretty good. The new Fear Factory album is awesome. Let's see, oh, I found this band called Demon Hunter. WOW! Absolutely love it. But, I would have to say though, that the best driving music is 40 Below Summer. They are awesome. Heavy songs and slow songs. Really good for rush hour traffic!!! hahaha Anyways, that's my two cents again, almost a year later...hehehe By the way, I am not in my band ENEVEL anymore, I am in a different and BETTER band called Downshift. Pretty heavy stuff, but pretty much your typical NU-Metal stuff. I mean, it is quite different then anybody else, but it's good. The site is under construction, but, you should check out www.downshift1.com every once in awhile to check it out. Also, if anyone is into NU-Metal, and you want to check out some of my music, you can email me and I can send you some of our stuff... Laters!!!

I've spent the last minute trying to decided if I like music or cars more, and I think it's a tie. The music I love is Psy-trance, which is a very original, intelligent, and awesome style of electronic music that you won't find much of in the US. This is what I love to drive to. It's actually pretty much all I drive to. I'll throw in the occasional OutKast, Tool, and NIN as well. =)

electronic music is awesome cause the beats sound SO DAMN GOOD with a nice sub in a hatchback. =) Hip hop too of course, but there just isn't a lot of it that I like. I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch 10" sub powered by a 600 watt amp and it sounds better than a lot of my friends' larger systems cause of the hatch.

My girlfriend is 27 and I am 40, so we both influence each other. She bought the new Green Day album, and we have been playing that constantly.

There aren't many new bands that thrill me. I'm a big fan of Collective Soul, they are so under-rated.

I really like the old funk stuff too- Parliment and the later P-funk all-stars (George Clinton), the popular songs from the day, such as 'brick house' and 'play that funky music [white boy]' you all know. I used to play brick house every week in an open jam I went to- all black guys, and whitey (me) on the drums. It was cool, because I was the only drummer they wanted for that tune. The other guys (black and white) just couldn't FEEL that song right. I miss playing that now... Nothing radical, just R E A L L Y laying back on it. It makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up when you do it right...

I actually have deleted the radio in the car. I have quite a bit invested in a home system where I do most of my listening (still need a new table and phono pre-amp). When I had the factory tape deck installed, it was Primus and Tool mostly. I'm a big Rush fan from way back too, but not for driving normally (except Red Barchetta- designed for the purpose)

w0rd to the electronica fans out there, nothing sounds better than some fat beats pounding a sub in the back when you're cruising at 90 across I-90. Personally I'm a huge psytrance whore but lately my jungle itch has been rearing it's head again. For those of you who have decent systems, I order you to find a hard techstep track by Exile called Fatal Exception. The %!@#$ing most angry jungle track ever!

In the opinion of a humble every day jungler/trip hopist & dj who cant stand djs, Dj shadows track "mashin' on the motor way" got me to work today feelin good and revin high. favorite tracks this month... lets see, for the hiphopers (I feel sorry if your music only has four elements) "sea lion" off the new Sage Francis, the break on Saul Williams "black stacey" (also check his website for the list of demands remix video) two great albums pushing the boundaries of the genre SOLEs Selling Live Water, and BUCK65s vertex are amazing, Junglists out there if you can find anything by an LA based producer who goes by 1201 check it, just some very raw garage dnb, of course photek. Great mellow almost trip hop check Alias w/ markus archer (also known as the NOTWIST) the tracks called unseen sights available for free download on anticon.com i think. Tracey Chapmans let it rain is always a classic, great for driving down the coast. something more angry my little bro turned me onto dimmu borguir. other standing favorites include dj bobby b, sublime, nin, madvillian, ahh the velvet underground, sixtoo, jel, radio&portis head... it goes on and on... questions comments, don't understand what i'm saying?

thanks, I love it all, started spinning d'n'b, moved into hip hop & turntablism, after that it was just a landslide, funk, jazz, rare groove, oldies, classical, trip hop, blues, country, classic rock, death metal, anything but top 40, most music is the same, country and rap are identical other than context, stylized rhyming over a 4-4 beat with a hook or chorus, the turntable replaces the banjo, still just a guy talking about women, booze, money, and chevrolets, yet all do is divide ourselves.

aceyx
04-13-2005, 07:58 PM
yeah but the duels are awesome! (both turntable and banjo)

also, in country you lose your job, truck, wife, dog, and in rap you don't need a job, have trucks, hos, and doggs (crew).

i'm more of a straight rock and roll guy, but i really listen to everything (except polka . . . i'm not that old yet). i have something like 300+ discs and 5 crates, so i can guarantee that i have something you'll love, and something you'll hate.

i just dig music. my seminar paper is on digital sampling, if that's any indication.

i've found my favorite driving cd as of late has been 'exile in oblivion' by strung out. been a fan of theirs for quite some time now (since 98 or so, i think). they still do these things they used to do way back in the day, they're called guitar solos and unlike a lot of punk/hardcore stuff out now, their singer can do just that-- sing!! it's funny to watch the progression of a band from your typical double kick drum, punk rock band to a band who can write songs with some lyrical and musical depth.

some other things i've been playing in the car are the first tool cd, the cure trilogy (pornography, disintegration and bloodflowers), good ole' social distortion and whatever xm decides we're supposed to be listening to.

brrrkenstock, just make sure to wear some kind of ear protection when you're going to shows. i used to go to shows a couple times a week and last count i was nearing 300 or so. the loudness will catch up with you, it did me, i've lost a little sensitivity to high frequencies.

There's also the occasional Usher for beats... do have electronica compilation CD's.... but since getting married, have toned that down. (Gives her a headache). speaking of concerts in thunderstorms... i saw our lady peace in pittsburgh at the ic light... my bad, chevrolet amphitheatre... i swear that god was pissing on the city that night, the rain was coming down sideways. the first act go to play, can't remember who they were, but they didn't matter. then audiovent comes on, you know, incubus' little brothers and get one song done and the sky lights up like james hetfield standing over a pyrotechnics display. they get pulled right off the stage... we all wait out the rain and just as its clearing up, they have enough time to do that big song they had that wasn't all so good and get off the stage. our lady peace came on to a clear sky with the wonderful pittsburgh skyline shining bright and played an amazing set.

If you look closely you can see my arm. :) She played the following night with no mishaps although some equipment was damaged in the rain. We had no roof covering the stage and I got shocked several times until they finally cut the power and went acoustic.

The following year she played at Radio City Music Hall and we had rain falling on the stage. It was a pretty neat effect.

you know, it's things like the hetfield comment that make me realize i am sooooooo going to hell.

I'll be right beside ya!! And speaking of Mr. Hetfield I have a very funny Metallica concert story...

It was the enter sandman era and I was at the mall one day and my friend Zeke asked me if I wanted to go see Metallica with him that night, (who am I to turn down a free concert ticket) so I said sure. Well when I told my best friend she said she wanted to go to, and since we didn't have any $$ we headed to the mall to find someone we knew to buy her a ticket and we only had like 3 hours until the concert started. So we are on a mission and what do you know...we run into this guy Frank who had always had a crush on my friend, so of course he buys her the ticket! So we are headed to the concert with Zeke and Frank and we had a party ball keg in the car so we were having a blast. We get to the concert and it was outside at "Legend Valley" wich is basically just an open field (there are no chairs or seats of any kind) so it starts to get dark and we accidentally lost Zeke and Frank (not on purpose I promise) so we are walking around and we decide that we are going to squeeze our way into the front row. So we did. We are crammed in the very first row and it's insane. I remember that everyone would go like 10 feet to the right, and then we would all go back to the left and I kept losing my shoe but I would always find it on the way back (just by feeling around with my foot because there was not room to bend over) anyway it starts getting really crazy and we didn't want to be in the front row anymore but when we tried to turn around and leave we realized it was impossible because everyone else was trying to get where we were. People were stage diving and it was pretty dangerous for 2 girls, so my friend is like what the hell are we going to do, how are we going to get outta here?? And I told her that I always seen on Mtv that girls would pass out and get carried away backstage and that we could do that, but before I had a chance to come up with a plan she decides thats a great idea and hits the dirt! And I am kicking at her yelling "not yet get up" but before she can get up, 2 huge guys pick her up and carry her away leaving me all alone in the damn front row!! So then I am like well what the hell am I going to do....so what other choice do I have but to hit the dirt as well. Sure enough here come the big guys and take me away. So we are at the side of the stage and they make me lay down on this cot, so I did and then I see my friend on another cot and after like 5 minutes they let us go back out into the concert area but this time we stayed wayyyy far in the back, and we were not back out there for 2 minutes and we ran right into Zeke and Frank!! So we watched the rest of the concert and left and lived happily ever after!!!

i've got like the total detroit rock city story....

it's a few years ago and strung out was touring for the 'twisted by design' album. i'd tried to see them a few times before and like on three diferent instances for this tour, i get screwed over. they play dc... people bail out. baltimore... i get sick. state college, pa... i can't find the club... finally, they hit club laga in pittsburgh. i know where the club is, i'm well, and i leave work just early enough to go. i'll go by myself if i have to. i've got this p.o.s. mazda hatchback that i know won't make the trip. on my 1/2 hour drive home from work, i'm calling everyone i know who digs punk rock to see if they'll drive. i'm coming up empty. i finally call my ex-girlfriend's best friend and see if she wants to go. she says yes and insists on taking her car. it's like 2 hours from my house to the club; we get there in an hour and a half. this place is the 4th floor of this old industrial building in downtown pgh, we ran up all 4 flights. we hit the door just as they're going on and the girl working the ticket booth is all like, 'you missed everything but the last band, go on in.' i'm floored...

damn, i miss laga. i had some good times there. i got to hang out with some cool bands-- the bouncing souls, swingin' utters, teen idols, all, less than jake... and saw some damn good shows. they oversold for bad religion. the club was listed for something like 900 people and there were 1200 people in for that show. mem-mories...

The first concert I ever saw was The Ramones. They played at a movie theater venue called "The Calderone" in Hempstead, Long Island back in 1978. I was 14 and my friend was 12, his dad took us. The opening act was The Runaways, who got booed off the stage. The Runaways were an all girl band, two famous members were Lita Ford and Joan Jett.

Looking back through the upcoming concerts booklet that was handed out at the show, I noticed something interesting. The following week after seeing The Ramones, Journey and Montrose were playing, and "special guests"....VAN HALEN.

And to think, if I cared about Van Halen at the time, I could have seen them as an opening act in a movie theater size venue.

Just asking about shows in general. I like keeping up on all forms of music entertainment.
I've always been fascinated with the flexibility in putting together hiphop and dnb and mix it constantly, i think it brings flavor to the monotony of jungle shows that are in such desperate need of some reformatting. I frequent la dnb events and though hiphop is there sometimes, its always seperated never fused. If you play records you probably see that learning any one style of mixing isn't very difficult, and what brings shame to the dj philosophy are the insestuous djs, and mcs for that matter, who believe their one flavor is the end all be all of musical existence. So much of what i see, at least in socal, is these 4elements kids, their first day on the block, repping so hard that they are the epitome of hip hop, while on the other end of the spectrum you have dnb djs and mcs that stay true to their form ... forever... not innovating not changing thier mix structure not ever letting go of that white boy ragga flow that theyve rehashed for the millionth meth infused night. So few crews even try anymore. Its always, do what that guys doing, only i'm gonna do it. Same goes for house, club, skratch, battle, and pop djs and mcs, for the most part. Its nice to hear that your trying new things. My only advice is to not sample or find inspiration from within the scene you are trying to cater to, there is a world of music out there, most of which isn't made with a sequencer thats just ripe for the picking. Learn to rock the house not just the heads. Anyway, I got on a rant, I apologize, get some tracks up, I'd love to hear what your clique is doing, and hit me up if you ever feel the urge.

runaways... that would be the one....

speaking of old school, it seems that billy idol is still the master of his craft. i saw him a while back when he did the whole story tellers thing for vh-1 and well, the show was good, but nothing i'd put in my top 10. but, saturday night, oh my god. the man was on fire!!!

I worked for Jett for a few weeks right around when I Love Rock n Roll was out. When I worked in NY I also remember talking with Idol when MTV first started interviewing him. His image was pretty much created for MTV. It was pretty funny that Steve Stevens actually had a bigger entourage that Idol.

You know you have problems when you would rather listen to your car than music lol jk. When going to work I listen to My Chemical Romance, The Used, The Strokes or Foot Fighters, so I can get in a better mood for the day. When driving home I pop in Jack Johnson to mellow down.

I'm a big fan of Collective Soul, they are so under-rated.

I haven't listened to them for years - are they still going? Never made it big over here, but then nothing good out of America ever does. The kiddies here seem to love buying Euro trash.

I'm mostly listening to:-
Lost Prophets (good Welsh rock boyos)
AudioSlave (rage and Chris Cornell - what could be better - saw them live not that long ago - really rocked)
Our Lady Peace (big in Canada - saw them in London at a tiny gig with Good Charlotte supporting who we meet in the bar)
Kasabian (really amazing stuff - Stone Roses meets Black Grape)
Relvet Revolver (quality live although I did see Stone Temple Pilots live and that has to be the maddest concert ever with Boy Hits Car supporting - stunning)

Way too much other music to mention, me and the old man are massive music collectors. He likes most of the music I listen to so it's real easy to pick up new music.

I kinda fell off the club/dance train a while back. Its lots of fun and easy to mix, and if you want to actually see people move to your music its mandatory, but i traded in the metronomic pulse for the throbbing basslines of Drum & Bass and Jungle. Cant really explain it, it just feels more invigorating. Don't get me wrong, Armin and PVD are masters of thier craft, i just don't really think its for me anymore... well at least for now. Anyway, i've been putting together some mixtapes lately, a good range of genres. Right now I have a couple more sappy ones that i mixed for my girl, mostly instrumental, female singer/songwriter, and trip hop (jel, djshadow, velvet underground, lucinda williams). Another that moves from downtempo/ambient/triphop/inst. hiphop, into a couple good DnB tracks, followed by some underground hiphop.(amon tobin, sixtoo, noisia, photek, saul williams, sage francis) I'm working on a hard DnB one, should be done in about a week. another strickly underground hiphop. and another beat mixtape for my MCs to write to, which will be followed up with the completed tracks....hopefully.
So...if anyones interested, let me know, i'm willing to send out a few UPS/USPS or better yet get them hosted so those with broadband can download them.

Yeah, the new Gorillaz cd is pretty good..i mostly listen to heavy/black metal in the car...also some stuff to cool down like Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

A good concert coming up is Chimaira, 3 Inches of Blood, Six Feet Under, and All That Remains, coming to the Myrtle Beach House of Blues...for all you metal heads out there. It'll be pretty good im hoping.
