Incase you don't feel like buying a reset tool for your bimmer there is an easy way to reset the service interval if you change your own oil or for any other reason you would want to. On the OBDII cars, E36 96+, you can reset this by opening the hood and looking for your OBDII connection housing. Twist the top off and find the pin #7, get a jumper wire and ground this pin for aprox. 15 seconds. That should take care of it.

The procedure is the same for OBDI cars as well. Ground for ~3 secs for an oil service reset, and ~12 secs for Inspection Reset.
If I remember correctly, I think one of the pins on the plug actually is a ground, so you can just jump pin 7 to it...just don't know which one it is.

Don't forget to fuse your jumper!
