Hi all,
I recently bought a BMW 318ti and I now see an "Inspection" indicator on. How do I know whether its Inspection I or Inspection II ?

The car has approx. 60k miles and I do not have the inspection history for this vehicle.
thanks

The Inspections roughly come at 15K, 30K, 45K and 60K and since they alternate, you'd be due for an Inspection II.

Good idea to do a full Inpsect. II anyway, if the car is new to you. That'll give you new fluids and filters all around and a thorough check. Time to check that Achilles heel, the water pump too. Might as well have it swapped.

On my first ti the inspection intervals were almost exactly every every 18K miles.

I think the it is good advice to do an inspection II regardless.

You can either bring it to the dealer/independent or do it yourself.

I do plugs, oil & filter, microfilters, air filter myself. I save the messy stuff for the dealer since I don't have a garage or driveway. Rear & tranny fluids. Gas filter.

Brake fluid gets replaced often.

Thanks Guys!

As per your suggestions I have scheduled for an Inspection II. This way I can start from a clean slate.

My 2 cents...

Make sure you specify the trans and differential fluids be changed. The newer BMW's have the "lifetime fill" crap, and the dealer will not change it unless you ask (and pay extra). (My '98 has this)

I would also have the brake fluid changed. I do mine every two years, unless doing a lot of autocrossing, where it may get done twice a year. It absorbs water (hydroscopic), and will corrode the brake system from the inside-out, and if it has a lot of water in it, will contribute to spongy-pedal.

The inspection-II that was done on my car (with extra work stated above plus rotating and re-balancing tires) was $1100.00, but this varies from dealer to dealer. The dealer should have a sheet explaining exactly what is included in the "standard" inspection-II, as well as other services for additional charge.

Inspection-II is the more intense job Vs. Inspection-I.

I have 37K on my car, and the inspection light came on. This is the first inspection since I bought the car in August. I've already changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, gas filter and spark plugs. Can you give me the link to the Inspection I & II checklist? Also, does the Peake reset tool work well, will it reset all of the lights?
