I had my manual tranny oil changed last week and since then I have noticed that, when cold, it is nearly impossible to engage first or second gear. Once the car has been driven even a mile, it slides in just fine. Obviously, the gears are getting lubed as the car warms up.
I never had this trouble before this recent fluid change so that is what baffles me. The tranny itself only has about 10K miles on it, having been replaced last year (due to the dreaded "popping out of gear" problem).
The transmisson is the Getrag S5D 250 in a 96 ti. Fluid used is the recommended Dexron ATF fluid.
Is this a viscosity issue with the fluid? Not enough fluid? It can't be the tranny... it just can't be.
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
