im seriously looking into buying a ti (which year is best 95 or 96+).
and was wondering where my best bet would be to purchase/install a 3.0/3.2 in california, preferably nor cal.

if anything, socal would be fine too as well as boston/NE area since i go to school there (spend like 8 months of the year there)

thanks

Depending on WHEN you want to do the swap, I may be able to do it for you.

My shop is in CT, about 2 1/2 hours from down-town Boston.

Just let me know.

Jim,

What would you charge for an engine swap with all the bit and pieces necessary?

provided there are no 'complications' it should be about one week to do it.

My fee would be around $800-$1200, depending on actual hours obviously.

Other fees to keep in mind (that are out of my control) would be the tow to the dealer (for OBD-II cars) price- $?? (mine was a favor), as well as the dealer fee for the allignment of EWS and ECU (around $100 or so). Modification of the shifter linkage (weld shop $50.00) if the ti tranny is retained. If the M3 tranny is used (along with linkage etc.) this will not have to be done. Figure another $100.00 for fluids/filters...

This is assuming an M3 donor car, not an M roadster as I used. The roadster motor complicates thigs a bit, which will add dealer cost...

Also, any 'questionable' parts I find should be attended to. Things like the water pump (depending on year of motor) and neck are easy to do while the motor is out, expensive to do later. Clutch and tranny seals are a good idea, but probably not absolutely needed (I did mine- they needed it). A lightweight flywheel is easy to do while doing the clutch and seals, so I recommend budgeting for that (again not imperitive). Also, if the slave cylinder for the clutch does not come from the donor car, that will be needed, or you will have a left leg larger than the right one...

This is not a 'cheap' swap, and a used M3 that is driveable may be a better alternative, and the re-sale will be good. A modded ti is a very narrow market segment car, and if you think you may sell it later, you will NEVER get your money back on it. Just keep that in mind...
