Does the Fogged airbox mod described in the MZ3 site work for the 95 Ti as well?
thanks

hey i just fogged the airbox on my '95 ti and it DOES WORK. i believe its even EASIER to "fogg" the m42's airbox because the air inlet is on the front of the box which allows an easy and direct path to the area behind the foglight. i was quite happy with the results. its quieter than the K&N cone filter (still louder than stock though), but it seems to work better at high rpms. the noticable difference is around 5k rpm and from there it continues to pull hard to redline as opposed to dropping off with the stock setup. i used pvc piping instead of the flexible stuff that i saw being used. i relocated the horn(s) up next to the airbox and strut tower, which left a nice big hole that easily allowed for the pvc pipe to be routed down behind the foglight. total cost was $12 and change. i'll try to get some pics up soon and you can see how it looks. i highly recommend this easy DIY mod.

I really like the idea of this upgrade. I have been trying to read all I can on it before I attempt this on my car. A primary concern is the potential water intake though the piping to the filter. While I only have a basic understanding of how it works, I was hoping someone would entertain some of my questions.
1. Using hot glue instead of silicone based glue to attach the 4' tubing to the air box. Why would silicone adhesive create problems with the Sensor? What about other sealers eg: acrylic/ latex based caulkiing, fire caulking, etc..?
2. water intake. What would you say to drilling a series of small holes along the intake tube (spaced like 3 inches apart at the lower air input half of the tubing), to help drain water out and also fractionally increase air input?
Thanks for your input!

many silicone adhesives cause problems with the various electronic sensors in the air stream of an engine. The fumes collect on them and form a silicone barrier (angstroms thick) that does not allow the sensor to 'sniff' any more. The motor will sometimes go into 'limp' mode and it can be dificult to diagnose.
Many say they are 'OK' for sensors (differing colors for different applications) but I don't know for sure. I avoid sily-cone myself.
Perhaps PVC cement would be OK, once fully cured (overnight- no more smell). Just not sure if it will bond to ABS which is what the air box is made of, if I'm not mistaken.
Why not a mechanical fix? A couple short aluminum tabs, bent 90 degrees and a couple pop-rivets. Add some foam weatherstrip at the joint before fixing... Presto! And no sensor problems.

foam weather stripping did the trick for me. no mess!

Okay dammit! I cranked open the hood to install my Euro Ellipsoids and Angel Eyes, and also to peek at the pathway I want to install the Fogged mod tubing... And there's a big ass Horn mounted (welded??) to the brake duct channel blocking the pathway to behind the fog light area.
How did you work with this???? I have a M44 ('98 318ti). Help is appreciated.

i relocated the horn up alongside the airbox. this left a nice big opening for anything you need to do.

I should have paid attention to your previous post. Thanks.
1. Did you ever happen to post some pics of the mod? I'd be interested in seeing the exact area one would mount the horn.
2. the horn seems to be riveted into a small mount welded onto the metal brake duct. How did you remove it?
thanks!

hmm, mine is a '95 and there were 2 horns mounted above the brake duct. although from what i remember they were not mounted TO the brake duct. so this may be a difference in 95s and 98s. mine unbolted easily but i do have a picture somewhere and i will try to find it.
---4:14 pm: I have uploaded pictures of my airbox to my personal gallery. you can see the horn mounted next to where the airbox and cruise control mount. the other one shows where the pvc piping goes through where the horn was. there are 2 lengths of pipe and it ends up right above the foglight in the cavity behind the bumper cover.

Hey on the Horn there is a Nut on the underside that you can take off, I Have done a full custom CAI. You can then mount the Horn up by your air box.

Hey, thanks you both, I will take another look when the weather clears up. Not sure what I'm looking for on that first pic (I don't have cruise control), but I'll find it. It's only a horn right? Look forward to knocking this mod out. Question... when you did this mod, did you unplug the battery like it was recommended? (to "reset" something)...
Just curious.

Ooh. also of note.. I'll have to take a *really* close look tomorrow. My Euro Ellipsoids push back A LOT further into the engine bay, than the regular stock lights. This could pose a problem...
