hey i needed a new exhaust (had broken baffle or 2 in original) and was shopping around. i found that alot of you guys used Bosal and were satisfied. i did some more research and found an ansa system for about the same price. i read some mixed reviews about the older e30 systems, but i havent seen much feedback for our ti's. so i took the path less traveled and went with the ansa. its italian so i expected a nice euro sound. well, intallation was a snap. it bolted right on with no modifications or anything. the fit was great and nicely lined up. took no more than 25 minutes to remove the old exhaust and put the ansa on (i had access to a lift which makes it very easy).

in terms of looks, it cant get much more stock looking than this. no rolled tip or anything. its shinier than some other new exhausts i've seen so im guessing its stainless but i may be wrong. the tip is about the same size as stock. the muffler itself is somewhat smaller. unlike the stock pipes that looked crimped in some parts to clear some underbody features, this has constant pipe diameters. i plan on getting some sort of tip for it. i was surprised it didnt have one.

now for the sound. i started it and noticed it was not loud at all. its louder than stock and has a much better tone. but it was still nothing amazing. i was almost disappointed at that stage. i revved it up a few times and it had a nice subtle growl to it. not loud, but not embarassing like my old "can of pennies" sound. after driving it for about 30 miles and doing several good runs through the gears, it has gotten noticable louder and deeper. have any of you had this happen with your exhausts? maybe it has something to do with carbon buildup but i cant be sure. tonite after work, backing up in my driveway, it was very deep and much more satisfying than when i first heard it.

so overall i am happy with the exhaust. it is not flashy at all and will retain your stock appearance unless you get a tip. i notice that there is an ansa on ebay that has a polished tip and everything. all i can guess is that its newer than mine seeing that i got mine as a leftover. it was $220 and im happy with it so far. the only thing now is to see how long it will last. well, i havent seen much for ansa reviews, but maybe this will open up a new option for some of you.

Ansa, huh...I hate to burst your bubble but don't be suprised if your exhaust seems to get louder and louder. Most likely due to the holes that formed from the rust over a 9 month period. I learned the hard way on my ti. The welding rusted out between the piping and the mufflers and the car ended up sounding like those oriental rage exhausts that some people put on civics. The black paint even started to flake off of it soon after.
Well thats my Ansa horror story. I've had a Remus exhaust system now for about 5 months. And I am well satisfied and dont regret paying the price for a higher quality exhaust.

hey thanks for the info. i'll have to see how long it lasts. hopefully it'll get me through. btw how does that remus sound? i looked at those too but they were a tad pricey for my budget at the time.

I heard the Remus on a compact6, and did not care for it. The sound is a bit 'off' to my ears, and too loud in general (for me).

The stock M3 exhaust is too mellow for my taste as well (that's what's on my compact6 now). I think the Supersprint is a nice choice, but that's just me...

I'd guess the reason it seemed "off" in the compact6 is due to the shortening of the pipe that would be needed to fit with the 6-cyl in the shorter ti body. The muffler itself would have been tuned for the standard E36 body which is about 9-inches longer.

I have a Remus on my 4-cyl and it sounds just right... :D

It's all personal as far a sound goes. Someone developed each exhaust system be cause they felt it sounded good to them.

Get to listen to a bunch of exhausts, then decide.

Just PLEASE stay away from these 'sheep raper' ass-cans the rice pilaf's apply to their Hondas. They sound like, well like a sheep being raped! And that my friends, is not cool.

There is a new Ansa on Ebay, but I now think I will stay away from that brand. I bought a stainless header the other day on Ebay for $24.00. I hope I'm not an idiot, and already had one on my car. Just picked up my 1998 318ti last week, still deciding what to do on it. Here is the link to my header, can anyone assure me that this will go on my car?

Hey J!M, I'm on Long Island...Melville, where on Long Island are you?

bimmerboi318, sorry about your ansa exhaust. If your still looking for a new muffler go for a Supersprint. I have Supersrpint on my ti and it sounds great and its Italian like that ansa, but from what I heard about yours, this is totally better. It may be pricey, but its worth it and if you wanna go all the way you can get a Supersprint header and resonator.

Viper, i have a stromung catback i bought from understeer.com now and i LOVE it. it sounds great and is all stainless. it was also only $475 which seemed pretty decent compared to some others.

L84THSKY, stay away from the ansa if you dont want a piece of crap sitting under your car. and that auction appears to be a stock header setup. but for 14 bucks...why not have a spare haha.

L84 Like Bimmer said why not have a spare lieng around, but I wouldn't bother putting it on since you already have that on your car....You would just be wasting your time, unless your headers are F'ed up.
