Hello ti gang,

Iíve worked out a deal with my insurance such that Iím buying the salvage of my wrecked S54 2001 M Coupe. I had an accident three weeks ago where I, and the car, took a hard side impact right at the left door hinge, A-pillar, firewall junction. Lucky me! If it was just an inch further back I would be broken up pretty good right now. If I hit the tree 24î back, I would not be typing this, nor even able to think about typing.

Anyway, last week I pried open the hood and the engine looks fine. No hard hits anywhere. The whole rear of the car is fine too, plus I can pull off the front suspension and wheels. So, Iím contemplating the transplant into a ti. This would be the first S54 transplant that Iíve heard of.

Does anyone know if this project will be much, if any harder, than the old US M3 S52 motor transplants?

Any helpful hints, J!m?

The car I want to build will be a track school/club racer that will be driven to events. I want to keep some of the creature comforts like a/c, but the interior will be mostly stripped for a roll cage and race seats. Iíd like to buy a ti with a blown motor/trans, since I donít need the old motor anyway. Does anyone know of a pretty exterior car with mechanical probs? That could be the car for me.

I know Iím facing a hell of a project, but it is a way for me to hold on to some of my old baby and put together a track machine without too much of a $$$ outlay. Iíll let you all know how things proceed.

TIA,

Alberto

Salvage everything attached to the engine. Wiring harness, gage cluster, EVERYTHING.

Transplant it ALL into the ti, and it will work. If you try to piece it in, it will be a nightmare...

You may need a custom driveshaft, but I don't forsee any other major problems.

Probably got in over his head. That or he has been to busy enjoying it to worry about us and our single throttle bodies.

Well, just checking in after a long while. Both cars are stripped with motors/trans, and electronics sitting in my garage. Been too busy to do much lately, but the vision(and sounds) always dance in my head. Next step is to have a full strut-to-strut roll cage fabricated, then begin reassembling suspension and motor. I bought the service action kit for the S54 so that will be done(new rod bearings and higher capacity oil pump) before being dropped in, or jacked in from below. The whole harness from The Coupe will be put in the ti. The computer won't know the difference. What else? Hmmm. I bought some S54 Euro headers and know someone that can get the computer to not look for the post cat O2 sensors nor the cold start air pump. Can you say stright pipes to a muffler? Vroom, vroom! Yeah, baby, it'll be sweet. A litlle ripper.

Gotta race my bike for a while then I'll get a little more done on the project. I'll let you know how it goes. If you need some ti parts, just ask.

I have all of the interior, instrument cluster, A/C parts, radiator, H&R lowering springs, etc, etc. Would love to clear out some space this summer.
