Hello ti gang,
Iíve worked out a deal with my insurance such that Iím buying the salvage of my wrecked S54 2001 M Coupe. I had an accident three weeks ago where I, and the car, took a hard side impact right at the left door hinge, A-pillar, firewall junction. Lucky me! If it was just an inch further back I would be broken up pretty good right now. If I hit the tree 24î back, I would not be typing this, nor even able to think about typing.
Anyway, last week I pried open the hood and the engine looks fine. No hard hits anywhere. The whole rear of the car is fine too, plus I can pull off the front suspension and wheels. So, Iím contemplating the transplant into a ti. This would be the first S54 transplant that Iíve heard of.
Does anyone know if this project will be much, if any harder, than the old US M3 S52 motor transplants?
Any helpful hints, J!m?
The car I want to build will be a track school/club racer that will be driven to events. I want to keep some of the creature comforts like a/c, but the interior will be mostly stripped for a roll cage and race seats. Iíd like to buy a ti with a blown motor/trans, since I donít need the old motor anyway. Does anyone know of a pretty exterior car with mechanical probs? That could be the car for me.
I know Iím facing a hell of a project, but it is a way for me to hold on to some of my old baby and put together a track machine without too much of a $$$ outlay. Iíll let you all know how things proceed.
TIA,
Alberto
