Hello.
I just want to know if you all go to BMW dealers, or you go to other places (eg. goodyear, firestone, etc.) for your car maintenance like oil change, and stuff?
Just a question.
Thanks

Since the car is out of warranty I go to a couple difference independent shops that specialize in BMWs.
If I know what parts are needed I will purchase them using a 20% discount from my BMW dealer.
I have another independent who I like for alignments.
I stay away from the big chains.

I take mine to a Autocraft in York, PA for all non bodywork problems. For bodywork I do take it to a dealer (they got a good bodyshop).

I'm a DIY'er. I get my parts from bavauto.com usually. these cars arent very high maintenance, so it's not an everday thing luckily. :)

I know the parts manager at my local BMW so I get the parts pretty cheap, than I do most of the work myself -- Oil changed etc -- I did my starter about 2 weeks ago and my clutch about 1.5 months ago.

2ndbimmer mentioned an Autocraft in York... are they BMW cerified? I live in Lancaster and am looking for a good BMW mechanic.

I can handle the inspection II stuff. I think I probably do a better job than a garage because it's all pretty mickey mouse, and it's MY car. It also saves a few hundred dollars.
Electrical work is a different story. I use an automotive electrical specialist. These guys are easy to find, just call different garages and ask. Lots of general practitioner type places shy away from electrical problems.
Otherwise, I go to Downs import car service in Downs, IL. This is partly because they are good, and partly because they have a cool Morgan I'd love to talk them out of.

well... if you have a driveway I would say do it yourself - that way you know what is going on with your car ( I had a friend that took his car to some shop and they messed up the drain plug on the oil pan)

Unless your car is under warranty or the dealer has incriminating photos of your ti with Mugen and R-type stickers you should search out qualified independent mechs. Where in OH are you? I'm in Cleveland and know some people in Columbus. Post in the regional forum on bimmerforums.com that you need a mech. You'll get some feedback. Hope it helps.
