just recently under acceleration my engine has been hesitating. mostly between shifts right when i get on the gas again. the check engine light comes on and the engine stops pulling altogether. it lasts about a quarter second and is pretty consistent now whenever i get on the gas. i have done the fogged airbox mod and have a freeflow exhaust. could this be an emmisions problem? or could it be a problem with the airflow meter. on my engine (M42) the airflow meter is pretty much a flapper door that opens with the airflow. i dont know how the m44's are. but could a lower restriction intake somehow cause the flapper door to open too quickly causeing an error in the computer? just some thoughts. any help would be greatly appreciated.

well i unhooked my battery for awhile to hopefully reset the computer and it hasnt had a problem since. i'll see what happens i guess.
The M44 uses a hot film air mass flow meter.
the mechanical 'flapper' was discontinued because it is mechanical, and therefore easily screwed-up. Imagine turning the volume knob on your radio as often as you step on the gas (and then some). It's basically the same thing.
The resistance created by the moving flapper creates a variable signal the ECU uses to calculate air mass into the engine so it knows how much fuel to dump. Then the O2 sensors let it know how well it predicted the needed air, and fine tunes as needed.
If you fogged the airbox recently, this could be a cause as there may be less pressure of air at the same flow rate. This would confse the computer, and resetting may solve it.
