I swapped to an E30 diff and now when I change directions (1st to reverse, or reverse to 1st) there's a knock. It's not loud, but it sounds like there's something banging due to torque direction. I checked all the diff bolts and they're all tight. Any other ideas?
PS. Happy Independence Day!

no knocking at speed or accelerating??
Might just be your transmission. I know that 1st-Reverse clunk in the e46 m3 is considered normal by BMW NA

Thats pretty normal for most lsd diffs. Every RWD car with an LSD that I've owned did that.

My Mcoupe LSD does not do this.... if it does, i can't hear it.
Could just have a little bit of excessive play.
If your fluid is good, I wouldn't worry.

IIRC Mcoupe's have a Torsen(???) style LSD while e30's and such use a clutch style.

My 3.45 LSD didn't do that... oh well, I'll just assume it's normal.
