ding....ding....ding....

i have a 1995 bmw 318 ti automatic...hmm...i think its a sport. anyway anytime the driver side door is open, the car makes the ding...ding...ding sound. it used to not do that. i know its trying to tell me something...but i cant figure out what!


any ideas?

its not telling me the door is open because it used to not do that...but it dings even if the key is not in the ignition...i was vacuming the interior the other day...no key in the ignition and it wa ding ding dinging the whole time...

is something messed up where it thinks there is a key in there? or is it something else or what

I have the same problem. It's the key tumbler for the ignition switch (where you insert your key to start the car). Basically, the tumbler is sticking inside and still senses a key, even though one isn't there.

What I've found is that if you remove your key quickly, the tumbler doesn't stick. If you really want to fix the problem, have the ignition switch swapped out.

My '97ti started doing that 3 days ago. It was torture! I tried the key trick and it worked! Thanks for the advice!
