I found out this weekend that my biggest complaint about the 318Ti can actually be fixed - can someone provide the link for the arm rest kits??? I need one desperately!!!

How could you need an arm rest when both hands are on the wheel?

I did the armrest conversion earlier this year -- higly recommend it; it's great for the driver and also for the occasional passanger on the right seat. I got mine from Bavarian Autosport, but it was one of the last ones they had. It's a generic fit for all e36, so you should be able to find one. Installation requires some slight mods and if you want, you can keep the original cupholders and coin storage. Go for it!

There are actually several kinds of armrests that you can get. I got one of those OEM fold-away types that come with ashtrays, etc. This is the one that is getting short of supply, I think. Bavarian Autosport said a year ago that I got one of the last ones they had. It may still be worth trying there. There are also aftermarket armrests that a less expensive and simplier in design -- they probably do almost as good a job as the OEM one. This is one of the best mods I've done to my car and highly recommend it.

I found an even better aftermarket armrest from the Woodcompany.

Some armrests may still be available from BMW (http://rust.mine.nu/bmw/showparts.do?model=CG73&mospid=45265&prod=19951000&btnr=51_4488&hg=51&fg=95).

You may also want to try this company for armrests. It says its for a Z3, but since both the Z3 and ti has the same center console (don't they?) it should fit. For an aftermarket unit, they look pretty well finished.

I just called the local dealer, they faxed me the picture and part # 82 40 9 404 405. The cost for the sand beige leather armrest is $219.00. I'm wondering if I can get it cheaper somewhere else? I posted a message about one I saw for sale that was on an M3. Someone replied that it won't fit. The armrest looks identical, but maybe the mounting insert is different, any comments?

Is the armrest you are mentioning the same as the one from the dealer? I just got quoted a cost of $219.00 from the dealer. I also just received a catalog from Bavarian Autosport, it only had this crappy drop in armrest in the catalog. I bought it, and am sending it right back.

The dealer is the best place to get it. Try Circle BMW, Or Pacific BMW for a better price.

You can make the M3 one fit if you use a drill.

The armrest I bought used from a guy in Alabama didn't fit. I paid $125.00 plus shipping. I'm sending it back, just ordered one from Circle BMW. My dealer on Long Island wanted $219.00 plus tax. Circle BMW priced me $175.00 plus shipping. So in the end, the tax balanced with the shipping. That saved me $219.00-$175.00= $44.00

The armrest looks identical, but maybe the mounting insert is different, any comments?i came across a guy at the Bavauto show&shine this year that modified a 95 M3 e-brake console w/armrest and it looked good. wish i would have known this before i sold the one i had.

Well, the guy who sold me the used armrest swore it would fit my car. Maybe it would, but it was damaged, and I couldn't figure out how the armrest lower section fit through the console. He also re-dyed the armrest, seems more like spraypaint. In the end, I paid $175.00 for a new one, so I don't need to lose sleep.

The color was an exact match for my interior. I plan on installing it this weekend. Problem is the original cupholder in the stock center console won't fit the new armrest. Anyone know if there is a cupholder insert for the OEM add on armrest? The dealer says there was none for the 318ti armrest. Actually, the only part that doesn't fit, is the front where the change holder is. It sticks out too far.
