Hello,
I'll do a quick intro since this is my first post.
Name's Allan. I'm a VW guy and like almost all VW peeps we look up to BMW like a little brother looks up to his big brother. So needless to say there is a lot of respect to the BMW sciene.

Now, my topic:

I'd like to know what your AutoX wheel and tire setups are. Please list:
Wheel Size (Dia, width and ET):
Tire Size and brand/model:
Fender Mods (Rolled/Rolled & Pulled):
Thanks!

I ask this because my friend just bought a 318ti as a daily/AutoX car and he is a bit scared of tirerack.com's mention of unrolled fenders and nothing wider than 215mm tires. He had plans of going wider.
Thank you,
Allan

I've been running 225/50/16 StarSpecs on 16x7 "Z-Star" BMW wheels, ET46. Car is lowered and running camber plates. No issues with rubbing, etc.

Going to a 17x8.5 or 17x9 with 245/40/17 v710s. Should be no issues with rubbing.

Running 245/40/17 StarSpecs on 17x8 Team Dynamics Wheels with TC Kline D/A's and Vorshlag camber plates no rubbing issues.

Camber plates hu... I get the idea. Us FWD people don't get to enjoy this.

Back to BMW's!
So it seems like Star Spec's are a favorable tire. (on my VW I wanna run Potenza RE070's)

He is thinking of getting these now.

Oh wait! Another question!
Do the camber plates effect tire/fender clearence?

I have 16x6.5 AT Italia contour replicas, offset is around 40-45 I think, with 205/55R16 Michelin Energy tires, no fender mods necessary since the tire size and offset are the same as stock

I went with StarSpecs when everyone thought they'd work best on a heavier car. I've been happy with them, but I have no data to say they are better.

Those wheels you linked are pretty heavy. Get a set of Kosei K1s or D-Force wheels.

235x40 toyo r888's on kosei k1 17"s... Camber plates on the front, tckline coilovers, really low. I have my rear fenders rolled to give extra clearance, but it is not required for these tires. When I bought these rims, they had 245x45 Z1star comps on them, and those rubbed before rolling. But it just tears up the plastic fender liners, which don't do that much anyway.. :)

I get some front rubbing at full lock, but that is only when driving slow or moving the car around in a garage, pit stall.

After rolling the rear, I could probably run a 245x40 or a 255x40. Way more tire than a stock 1.8l needs.

Star specs are one of the best street class tires I've run. Some might argue there are better tires, but for the money, they are the best IMO.

Good to know about those AC Shnitzer wheels. They look light like theres nothing to them.

Funny you should recomend the Kosei's because he was looking at them first!

So you guys with the 17" Kosei's have the 8.5" wide with an ET of 40 right?

Deez?

Do you think they are durable enough to use as a daily wheel?

Who needs Data!?!?!? What speaks to me is when people say they are happy with something.

Yup, try to find them used though. I bought an almost brand new set of 4 for 500$ with tires on them. If you are worried about performance, don't run any rim that is heavier than about 17 or 18 pounds. Tirerack will list 23# rims as lightweight. Kosei, d-force, or check out the APEX rims that a member is selling on bimmerforums. Those look just like BBS rims, but are much cheaper.

You should be fine running them as a daily. I put far more abuse on mine at the track then daily driving will probably ever do.

I'm running Mille Miglia MM-11 Sport 17x8 with 225/40r17 Hankook Evo S1 summers... placed first in class this year (first year), they're pretty good especially on a very strict budget like I'm on.

I would be careful running the kosei's on a daily driver. Pot holes put much higher loads on the rim than on track driving. I've seen quite a few cracked kosei's in classifieds. The D-Force's are a stronger wheel, but you pay for it in price.

I'll be running on a set of 205/45/16 Re-01's that I picked up for cheap on stock rims this coming season. Perhaps I'll pick up a set of wider 17" wheels if I find a good deal.

17x8 Team Dynamics et41, 255/40 RE-01Rs for transport and track
18x10 D Force LTW et 43, 285/30 V710 for autocross
fenders pulled, rolled, and hammered to get clearance. Needed a 25mm spacer up front for the 18x10s to clear the coil overs (Ground Control)

The fenders can cover 315s

ninja edit; before i went nuts on the fenders, Kosei K1 17x8.5 with 235/40 nitto nt-01s fit perfect with no issues.
