Is cruise control in any way a user-installable option? Has anyone on the list performed this on a ti or any other? Is a non-cruise steering column set-up to "receive" the control handle?

Not sure that I would untertake this, and I enjoy driving this car so much that I don't even miss cruise. Just considering it for the future.

Yes, it was an installable option for the ti, but last I heard, they retrofit kit is not longer made. I am also looking into the possibility of a retrofit, as I have some of the major CC parts already. I just need to know how to install it. If anyone on this board has a copy of the installation manual for the cc retrofit kit, please email or pm me. Since the kit isnot made, the dealer can't get copies of the insrutuctions. I will be stuck until I get my hands on those instructions.

I went to buy my first ti today, loved the car, clean, needs nothing As a 96
and white (been hard to find a white one) it's perfect. BUT... it does not have the cruise control.
I gotta have CC. So I am wondering if you couldn't use a Bentley manual to see how to install it? Does anyone know if the basic wiring is there or do you have to tear the whole car apart to install it?
I would just go find a wrecked 318 if it is possible to install...
By the way, as a newbie, hi everyone.
I have a 88 325 that won't die, but I want a ti. Gotta have one. Drove the one I looked at today, and it has enough power for an old fart like me anyway.
I also wonder if an aftermarket C.C. might be in order...
So I'll be watching this thread.

Welcome Mopho and given the fact that this thread is 4 years old I doubt if there is anything else on a retrofit. Hope you get some answers on this one!

Thanks. I guess you gotta be here a while to download/upload stuff.
I am kinda waiting before I sell my '88 325, cause I drive a lot, don't race, and I would miss the cruise. keeps me from getting tickets.
I did not buy the '96 ti yet, and at 4 grand, and 177K I was not sure what I should pay for it.

Thats why I ended up here, I googled the question, and I have found it is best to search for the answer rather than keep posting the same question.
The car is gorgous. Little old lady car, but it does have high mileage at 177,100 miles...

Help! It may be gone soon, I test drove it yesterday, seller already had it smogged, and here in N. CA I have been having a hellova time finding a clean white ti.

Is this part # the manual for installation? I thought it was no longer available.
I will call Concord BMW and ask while I wait to find out what this part # means,
Thanks.
Is this the right place to ask what this car is worth? Bluebook is way off base if this car is worth more than 4 K...
Current Nov1 Karpower Bluebook by zip code ( I am a Independent Vehicle Appraiser, self employed so I have to subscribe to this for total loss reports)
IS:
Low: $2,725; High: $4,100

Hi :)

No the number is for the retro fit for Cruise control. '

It includes all the parts needed for the conversion

The fitting manual is posted above

Vikings fan, eh? Kewl.
Thanks for all the help, still trying to decide if I should grab this '96 ti with 177K, and install the cruise myself... or wait for a lower mileage one.

That's Mr. Viking to us...
My Ancestors many moons ago came out West to the Left Coast to get more sunshine...from S.Dakota and MN.
Heck, we're probably related.
Here's the car I'm thinking about buying, and putting the CC on...

Is it worth 4 grand? Methinks so....Now I gotta figgure out what it's going to cost for all the parts if I do it meselfs...

I like the little 15" wheels. Kinda swirley, ya think?
It's got 7/32 tread left on Michelin Pilots. Won't have to buy tires fer a while, then it's gonna be Falcon Azenis 's like I have on my 325.

Mallard,
Do you think if the fact that the retro kit is the same part number for M42 M44, would imply that I could gut / remove the cruse control parts as shown in the fitting manual from a '96 1.9L ti car / engine and install in a 1.8L '95?

Mallard

1.9l ti ?

the M43tu was only available on the E46´s.

I never knew it was used on the E36.

If you mean 1.6, then no. Its only for the M42 and M44 and the throttle bodies are the same

tiFreak

the 1.9 M44 was used on the 96-99 ti's, the M43 wasn't even available in US market ti's

weird :?

i cant find an M44 1.9?
Is the M44 really a 1.8 or a 1.9 ?

i thought the 1.9 was the 1.6 M43 engine with a change of camshaft and crank? and they called it the M43tu.

the 1.9 m43 has the same Hp (105) as the previous but more tourque.
the M42 and M44 16v units were both 1.8, or so i thought. :?

Anyone confirm the M44 1.9 ?

tiFreak

it is, the M42 was a 1.8, the M44 was a 1.9, and the M43 was available in different displacements, as you just said

confirmed from the VIN thread. the very first vin was an M44. displ. 1.9 .

the next was an M42 displ. 1.8

 and i never knew !

the shame ....

In which case the 1.9 cruise control will retro fit to the 1.8 !!

Good news on it being compatible with a 1.8L, Now I need to find the money, and time after I take care of a engine starter problem first.
