View Full Version : Do non-ti specific coilovers fit the ti?

The answer is yes!

Rokkor bmw E36 coilovers. 289.00$ shipped
380lb Front
350lb Rear

The install goes just as easy as OE suspension and adjustment is easy. You can run all the pieces in the kit but i recommend using the stock spring pads and no adjusters. I also recommend Mroadster shocks or ti sport shocks as non-ti shocks require longer dampeners in the rear.

Overall experience, great. handling is great, not too harsh, easy install, looks good, oe fitment, what more to ask for.

interesting, nice that someone's actually willing to spend the money to test that, how do those rear springs fit? looks like the loop on the end is a little bigger than the original springs

Bluebimma

You can use the bottom adjuster, with(out), the adjuster. The spring centers in it, top is the same. Im pulling my adjuster completely and installing two new spring pads.

Bluebimma

Honesltly, i like it. Since i lowered it, it took a bit to get used to around town, but overall, im very happy with the install and choice of coilovers. I expected them to be decent, but theyre actually beyond my expectation. Definitely not like EBAY special sets for civics, seen and felt those.

Cool I'm looking to buy a set in the near future althoug my car is droped already w bramd new h/r springs and a used set of hd struts up front it feels to bouncy....you have a 6cy in there or 4cy

04-20-2010, 03:35 AM
Now you tell me.. Just messing(I still think the mz3 setup will be enough for me for now). What made you want to get these verses the mz3, adjustability or ride height? Are these similar to the raceland's, seems like a similar price...? If these go in with no problems, why does every thread say regular e36 parts dont fit/work? Is it just aftermarket coilovers that can be swapped? I understand the weight differences verse spring rates and all, I just dont understand how these go in so easily... With these you can get custom spring rates, and make your perfect setup the way you want it, for 1000$ less than any setup for the ti.... Why has no one found this out by now... Hope they end up above your expectations!

Bluebimma

I've ran mz3 for over a year and a half, needed lower and stiffer. Ive proven the whole, does non-ti suspension work on tis YEARS ago and posted on here, the guys here are just too damned hardheaded and blind to read.

Raceland are about 4$ cheaper but 50lbs lighter in spring rate per axle. Everything bolted in just fine, nothing is hack. I like them and feel great.

lysergicsurfer
04-20-2010, 04:19 AM
How does the stiffness of these feel? Ride quality compared to mz3, or H&R race, or whatever other springs you have tried? I am deciding if I should keep my H&R Race for track day/autox, or eventually pick up some of these. I could keep the front strut/spring together and be able to swap them out in quickly before events. I have not heard bad things about the racelands, only that when you go low with them they get softer, but quality is fine. I assume these would be similar, just with stiffer rates like you mentioned, maybe enough to avoid the softening effect when going low. Thank you for being honest and straightforward. I didnt pay much for my car, therefore I look to take shortcuts, and get away with spending the least amount of money possible. Its deals like this that we need more of. Thanks for sharing this with us.

P.s. I have seen the threads which you discuss the fact that the regular e36 parts work just fine, there are too many negative and opposite replies, since everyone is in denial, well I trust you.

wow that is crazy cheap for coilovers. did you get them straight from http://www.rokkortuning.com?
that site lists slightly different rates than what you posted.
Front 385 lbs/inch
Rear 340 lbs/inch

do you track the car with sticky tires? curious if the rates are stiff enough for sticky tires in an HPDE or AX environment.

these are the same as the raceland plus they come with the 3 year warranty from raceland too so yeah i think they r good

Dammit Tony, now you've got me thinking about spending more money. I'd love to go about an inch lower than my H&R Races. Especially with the fact I've gotta spend money on new rear socks anyway. Are the rear shocks any good, or are they crap? I know they're essentially the racelands rebranded. Can I ask why you went with the Rokkors vs Racelands, the Rokkors are better spring rates?

thanks

Bluebimma
04-26-2010, 09:19 PM
I went with rokkor because theyre ever so slightly higher spring rated. I reviewed most raceland threads on bfc and most complaints were in the stiffness, so i decided to try the higher rated versions. It really didnt matter which i bought, as i wanted to test out their versatility with mixing and matching coils from eibach and other companies.

After 400 miles now, id say theyre pretty comfortable now. Not harsh by any means, just right. Coupled with that ebay front end refresh kit, id say it would be a VERY VERY good investment for 500$ worth of parts for a near complete suspension refresh:

Control arms
Control arm bushings
Front endlinks
Inner and out tie rods
Front and rear dampers (though rear are about 2" longer in extension)
4 corner springs, adjustable ride height
Made for non-m, so no ///M sway attachment, just to the control arm
Everything has been plug and play completely
Alignment was great, minus camber, which involves installing a kit in the rear and front, but o well. For another 350 you get both the front and rear camber/toe kits.

Im happy with my purchase. Im swapping the rear shocks out for the sport ti monroes i had and new rear shock mounts since theyre the proper dampeners for that ride height.

Thanks for the response Tony. Only thing that worries me is I don't want to lose my sways, and you said they don't have the mounts. I know all my bushings and such are fairly new. I'll make the decision when I get home and can check out the status of my front struts. I really don't want to spend/don't have the money to drop on another set of Billies.

No, stock rears, will be using porsche 996 rear brakes to match the fronts. If you take the helper spring out, required for anything higher than et23, you can raise it to about sport level.

Mine would go another .25" but im not pulling my rear adjuster, it holds the spring in place. i run 17x8.5 ET13 bbs in the rear, as well as 18x9.5 ET42 with 245/35.

Dont know whyd you want to go any lower. My mdiff is only 2" off the ground and NO jack will slide under the front.

Whats everyone's experience with these coilovers? You guys like them, don't like them? Any complaints with quality? What is height of these all the way down?

I was thinking of getting H&R coilovers because it seems they have the most adjustment (Front: adj. -1.0"-2.5" / Rear: adj. 1.0"-2.0"), but damn they salty.

Bluebimma
06-01-2010, 01:13 AM
I sat mine, literally .5", off the ground to see low theyd go. As far as the rear goes, youre required to put the upper spring perch and at least the bottom mount of the adjuster in. Itll add another 5-6mm by actually installing the adjuster. With my 4.10LSD and Mcoupe finned plate, the bottom sits about 2" from the ground when fully lowered. Do NOT use the shocks from the kit, theyre too long and dont damp, causing it to constantly bottom out, use the sport shocks or something else much shorter and stiffer.

Ride confort is nice, in my opinion. Theyre a bit stiffer than ///M, not bouncy, damp properly, etc. Drive mine daily, about 300 miles a week. Road tripped for a wedding on saturday, 3.5 hours both ways in one day, no complaints whatsoever.

I run 205/40/17 rear, 205/50/16 front on 8.5/8 wide with 43psi, 39psi, no powersteering, and m50/getrag. Handling is very precise, as far as the tires will handle on dry pavement. Mated my coilovers with ///M strut hats, hubs, solid centered lcabs, and brake setup.

Measured from the ground to fender arch top, 22.5"f, 23" rear, light rake stance. Rear mtech diffuser sits 10" from the ground.

blue bimma, can you please help me? I purchased these shocks E36 for my bmw e36 1992 325i. I brought them to a garage and they coulnt install the fronts. The tower sat properly on my coilovers but the left no thread at all for me to mount the tower (or bearing tower). Even i remove the black metal hat on the top of the coilovers , there wasnt enough space. There was just no thread coming out at all. My OEM shocks end was much longer, leaving more space for the tower to be sat and a a lot of thread. My rokkor's did not give any at all .... so im asking, how did you install them ??? Even compressing the springs on the front , the tower sits until a certain point. The garage just coulnt install it and charged me for re-installing everything back ... They kept on saying my coilovers were failure. Please help me.

I live in canada so i cannot afford to ship them back to the states... Thank you.

It's likely because you have the old school e36 setup. You should take a pic of the hat and such then post up. You may need a different set if hats.

I was at the garage so i coulnt take any pictures ... The lenght of the thread of my rokkor coilovers are not able to go through the front strut mounts, they can only go about half way inside it. The thread lenghts are simply half shorter than my stock shocks (the end tip).

Is there anything i can do ? Like purchase another tower bearing ? I know they are quite expensive but i dont tihnk i have much choice since all aftermarket, even bilstein , seems to have the same length of thread at the end of the strut.
Does pelikan parts have the part? Thanks !!

Use e36 m3 mounts. Its a little offset but it works or you can use a regular e36 one. The depth of the Ti ones aren't as low as the regular E36 ones.
