Hey all,

Purchased my first ti 3-4 weeks ago and found out I had a milkshake in the oil pan........ But, found another ti in TN and the wife drove rental car one way to pick up and 680 one way miles later I now own 2 1995 318ti's! Here is the question! They both are 1995 and one has a production date of 8/1995 and the 2nd is 9/1995. I went to change the oil and the 2nd ti has a different filter. Everything is pointing to 1996 1.9L! I do NOT know if this car had an engine swap or not! Any ideas? Thanks everyone

Pete

Late production M42 engines use the M44 oil filter housing. If you want to make sure both cars are M42's, take a look at the camshaft position sensor. M42's have the sensor on the exhaust cam, M44's have it on the intake cam.

Good luck on your car(s)... post pics!

Good info Dave.

Pete;

In case you didn't know, the M42 is the 1.8, and the M44 is the 1.9...

Good luck, welcome to the .org, and enjoy your ti's!
