Club Sport
About 300 of these were imported into the United States. Included in the "Club Sport" model were 16" wheels and tires, M-technic body panels and suspension, and a special interior trim package. The Club Sport was only available in Bright Red and Jet Black. Also included were M3 mirrors.

Sport
In 1995 the Sport had the same 15" wheels and tires as the active and did not have body colored sideview mirrors. Only the 1995 Club Sport had 16" wheels which later became standard. Starting in 1996 the Sport packaged included, 16" sport alloy wheels with 225/50 ZR high-performance tires, leather steering wheel and shift knob, sport suspension, sport seats, sport cloth/leather upholstery, fog lights, M-technic body-colored bumpers and side skirts.

I know the LSD was optional up until ASC-T was released sometime in 96 but I do not think it was standard on the Club Sport. I could be wrong as I often am.

Good point, the date of manufacture for most of the club sports was around 10/95, they were for sale in late 1995. They are all 1995 model year.

The 540i sport was neat car marketed to fill a need in the U.S. for an M5, and is sometimes listed as an M5 on the used market. Like the 318ti club sport and the M3 LTW, only a limited number were sold in the U.S.

Where the M3 LTW fetches a pretty penny, the 540i sport with M/// badging and the 318ti clubsport can be had for extremely reasonable prices. The 5 series suffers from bad press surrounding the nickesil bore issue, and the newer body style 540i. Similarly, the clubsport would be more valuable if not for the fact that the '96 through '99 sports were pretty much the same, with better power from the updated engine that was introduced in '96.

I's kind of like one of each, myself.

I recently lucked upon a silver M-Technic Sport. The larger tires and sportier suspension really add a great handling component. However, people have confused the "M" with the "M3", and think that I have a growling tiger under the hood :) Love my little 4 cylinder.
