You mentioned your camshaft sensor problem in other post and I have some advice. When the camshaft sensor fails in BMWs the DME (engine control unit) uses the crankshaft sensoras a back-up sensor. You said the car would loose power when the light came on. I have put in 50+ camshaft sensors on cars that the CEL light was on and had no driveability problems. On these cars just a sensor fixed them. We have had 4-5 cars with the cam sensor codes that would not run or had lose of power. The first time we followed the codes and replaced the cam sensor and it still would not start. Then a new crank sensor and it fixed it. Sometimes the DME will mistake the problem sensor, but if there is driveability problems we replace both sensor to stop a comeback. ON the E46 series they replace both sensors and the harness to the sensors if either code comes up. You may want to have both checked out. Just a little info from someone who loves working on the best cars on the road.

Hello Jeff,

Sorry, I did not see this message sooner. I was going to get the camshaft sensor replaced last week but a day before the appointment the CEL: went away. The car is running but I do feel that sometimes the engine is struggling when I give it a little gas.

How hard and how expensive is it to replace the crank Shaft sensor?
Too bad you are not in California.
Thanks for the info!!!
