Happy thanksgivin yaaalllll. Ok, heres a question that some of you may or may not know. I am currently on D2 coilovers and im pretty dern low. My rear is completely maxed out, i have the collars out and upper spring pad, it tucks my tire quite a bit. But i want to go lower, in the rear that is. What is the lowest spring i could put in there. it has to be from an e30 i believe, i wanna get stiffer spring rates in the rear too. if anyone knows the lowest coilover spring for the rear of an e30 LMK.

What is the length of your current rear springs? TC Kline, Hyperco, Swift, etc. offer all different spring lengths. Measure what you have now and get something stiffer and shorter.

Just take the springs out. Set it on the bumpstops.

If it's a straight rate 2" spring without a behive, just cut them.

Not to start anything but over on Bimmerforums.com there has been a lot of disagrement about cutting springs. Granted they were stock springs but i doubt that just because they are from coilovers its any different. But what's your take on cutting springs? Rice? Blasphemy? or an acceptable practice?

how close will this be to the ground?

There is no way in hell I'm cutting springs haha. Dave had a great suggestion and I might work on that. But should I measure when they are settled or when they are out of the car? Cause they do like to settle a little bit

Measure them when they are out of the car. I know TC Kline has normal and shorty length for both front and rear. I forget what the rears are but normal fronts are 7" and shorties are around 6.5". Swift has 1" increments starting at 6" length.

Do you know what the spring rates are currently?

slow_ti

They are too stiff I don't think. Just the normal D2 coil over rates. I just want a shorter stiffer spring from a good company haha.

There are plenty of good options for springs, measure yours off the car, post up the length and see if you can get the rate from D2 so you know where your starting rate is.

^^ have the same kit ready to install. (not sure I'll go quite that low though) I say go with Hyperco, they offer a lot of different spring rates and lengths, then if the strut length is a problem use these:

GC "tall" mounts from Bimmerworld.

My car will never be that low, mainly because I don't want it that way...

However, the first one who scrapes the Botts' Dots off the road while driving, wins...

Good luck!

The main thing that would stop me is having to do (and redo) a horrendous amount of fender and paint work. I just always called them reflectors (learned something new today)

I have already installed my TC Kline shorty springs #700 rates. And they are super duper low. A little too low. Haha.
